Position Summary

The Honors Program at Colorado State University seeks applications forpart-timeinstructors in our First-Year Seminar courses, which function as an important entry point to the arc of an Honors experience across all four years. As an invocation to creative academic inquiry, the First-Year seminars provide a range of interdisciplinary questions, methods, and pathways for students to examine how different perspectives and disciplines intersect and transform understanding. The discussion-based format − where students help drive discussions and learn from listening − prepares them for future seminars within and outside of Honors.

While First-Year seminar faculty need to be able to foster this kind of environment with creative and interdisciplinary teaching, the Honors experience is about the larger context beyond the classroom. As incoming students experience a significant transitional space in their lives, we are seeking First-Year faculty with knowledge of the following:

  • How to foster “help-seeking” practices

  • The importance of curricular and co-curricular links

  • Connecting students to resources across campus and in the community

  • The importance of developing bonds with students and fostering belonging among students

  • How to engage in “meaning-making” of academic materials with first-year students.

Instructors are hired on apart-time basis each semester which is determined by departmental instructor need and student enrollment numbers. Applications will be reviewed when a vacancy occurs.

CSU Honors instructors teach interdisciplinary Honors seminars as part of the Honors core curriculum. The Honors seminar sections range between 19 and 22 students and the small class size creates an optimal learning environment for students and faculty alike. Each Honors seminar integrates several All-University Core Curriculum requirements such as Written Communication, Historical Perspectives, Arts/Humanities, Social/Behavioral Sciences, and Global and Cultural Awareness.

A 3-credit seminar equals .25 FTE and is paid $6000 – $7750/seminar, dependent on CSU teaching experience and/or education.
