Overview

This Senior Writing Engineer position blends the direct engagement in the development process of creating quality software with the creative process of describing and communicating its capabilities to the users. You will use creativity, technical skill, and stellar communication to help document and deliver high quality software for utility companies world-wide. You will develop deep knowledge of the user and system and publish technical documentation directly to customers and implementers. This position is in Schneider Electric's energy business, where we create GIS-integrated solutions that enable electric, gas and telecom utilities to manage their infrastructure assets.

Who will you report to?

Sr. Manager, Software Engineering-Technical

Responsibilities Create and review software documentation to ensure quality, clarity, accuracy, and completeness, for both new and mature software and APIs. Research, write, and maintain documentation using a documentation management suite of tools, including ArborText XML Editor, Windchill Content Management System, and Titanium HTML publisher. Use source code and configuration examples in the documentation as appropriate. Validate documentation by following instructions setting up or using the software and the sample data. Organize and manage tasks to ensure timely completion of work in support of product release cycle. Coordinate work with product owners in an Agile environment to manage team workflow, size and forecast completion timelines, track release deliverable. Size and forecast completion timelines for individual documentation development tasks. Communicate with team members across R&D, support, marketing, and education departments to capture, obtain or verify content. Gain domain and deep application knowledge to expand ability to write content independently and provide user-oriented feedback. Engage in several stages of the software development process, through iterative develop-and-test cycles and to final production release. Identify and report software defects and usability improvement areas. Use strong critical thinking skills to troubleshoot technical issues. Contribute to team improvement initiatives and projects, including team tools, process changes, publishing techniques, and test automation.

Requirements BS in Computer Science, CIS, or a related field; 10 years of related technical experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. 7 to 10+ years of technical writing in software or IT industries Solid knowledge of cloud computing platforms, especially Microsoft Azure. Experience with Jira and agile processes Experience with software installation and configuration, including familiarity with structured .xml and Windows Services

Knowledge Demonstrate a basic understanding of databases and tools, with the ability to view and manipulate data. Significant technical comfort navigating multi-tier applications. Amazing written and spoken communication skills; ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely without using jargon unfamiliar to non-technical users. For this STATE based position, the expected compensation range is $96,000 - $144,000 per year, which includes base pay and short-term incentive. The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our salary ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level.
