Description of Work Unit

The School of Social Work at Colorado State University ( CSU ) is part of the College of Health and Human Sciences ( CHHS ). We offer bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees in social work, along with a dual master’s degree in social work and public health and multiple graduate certificates. Position Summary

This position is a 12-month administrative professional role (AP), requiring an MSW degree. The Masters of Social Work ( MSW ) Advisor applies expertise about the social work profession and the MSW program at CSU to support prospective and current students throughout their pre-program and program experiences. The MSW Advisor also supports classroom instructors and the MSW and School of Social Work Teams. This role requires some schedule flexibility, which may include occasional weekend commitments.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity based on a history of training, education, or liberation-based activities.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Facilitate pre-program advising meetings with all incoming students to support the transition into the program

  • Facilitate ongoing advising meetings with current students to support their engagement with and success in the program

  • Meet with students to design and achieve personalized academic goals and offer curricular expertise about the MSW program of study and elective course options

  • Engage in ongoing communications with students about program details, including registration information and instructions, support with required forms, etc.

  • Promote ongoing points of connection with cohorts of students, individually and collectively, through planned events and maintaining availability for drop-in appointments

  • Develop weekly communications for students using electronic or virtual platforms

  • Monitor and document all individualized programs of study to ensure all academic requirements are fulfilled to support graduation

  • Coordinate with relevant staff to support dual or joint degree students

  • Collaborate with incoming and current students to support academic progress, providing support and connection to resources, as needed

  • Offer mentorship to students in connecting their academic experiences to their career goals, extending strategies and resources as appropriate

  • Encourage students to take part in activities that will enrich their academic development

  • Be a resource to students facing difficulties to offer support and/or provide referrals as needed

  • Advise students placed on academic warning, academic probation, and academic suspension, including monthly support to students with provisional acceptance during the first 1-2 semesters

  • Provide recurring 1:1 support to any identified students in alignment with retention and student development goals

  • Perform other duties as needed

  • Collaboratively develop and implement recruitment and communication materials that align with strategic planning across the School of Social Work and will center diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.

  • Contribute to social media planning/campaigns and collaborate with Communications Coordinator on MSW -related stories or student features

  • Collaborate with BSW Advisors and/or Program Director for Advanced Standing recruitment

  • Serve as a liaison among the MSW instructional team to coordinate and facilitate collaborative approaches to best support students, individually and collectively

  • Collaboratively facilitate MSW Program Orientation events each year

  • Collaborate with MSW team and instructional team to support students’ program experiences and resolution of student concerns as needed

  • Plan and implement annual Professional Development Days, an extension of program outreach and program orientation

  • Facilitate professional learning community or student mentorship group(s) as part of the MSW program experience

  • Coordinate and maintain an on-going positive relationship with the Graduate School on related activities, policies, procedures and updates are followed

  • Coordinate with Graduate School and College of Health and Human Sciences ( CHHS ) to represent the MSW Program in recruitment events and communications

  • Create and supervise MSW student ambassador hourly position(s) to support recruitment efforts

  • Cross-train in SLATE to support managing program applications in coordination with the Graduate Program Coordinator

  • Plan licensure Q&A sessions/communications in coordination with state licensing agency
