POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Applications Engineer is an experienced technologist who understands and meets the technical application / marketing needs of Advanced Energy’s customers and guides engineering programs for new power system capabilities. The position is “hands-on” and requires a significant understanding of current and emerging process requirements through direct engagement with system designers, process engineers, and Field Applications Engineers (FAEs). The Lead Applications Engineer works with cross-functional teams to advance AE’s market position. Specific applications of interest include RF plasma systems for both etching and deposition, along with emerging technologies in plasma processes for semiconductor fabrication.
The Lead Applications Engineer will also participate in targeted application testing, to provide feedback and direction to design teams, field engineers, and technicians related to AE’s products function and performance against the most critical product design requirements.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Enable customers’ successful implementation of plasma power solutions and guide AE product development through technical leadership
Understand industry trends and technical requirements to help guide the product group’s technology roadmap and to determine the appropriate AE solutions. Anticipates n+1 technology needs based on empirical data and direct experience.
Define the technical product requirements for multiple new products’ features
Serve as senior consultant to customers and FAEs to solve complex problems related to products, technologies, and system integration.
Serve as senior consultant to peer groups within AE (Marketing, Product Management, Engineering and Sales) in support of new product development and new business opportunities.
Mentor and assist FAEs by advancing their knowledge and understanding of customer processes, AE products, advanced measurement and analytical techniques, and customer technologies.
Represent AE technologies and expertise through conference and tradeshow participation as an experienced technologist
Advance AE’s Intellectual Property and AE’s technical reputation position by taking a lead role in contributing to patented technology and communication via publications, patents, and presentations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Solid understanding of electrical measurement and analytical techniques (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, MATLAB®, PythonTM, etc.).
Excellent technical and non-technical verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to influence decisions and actions with customer SMEs as well as technical and marketing groups within AE.
Knowledge of essential legal and regulatory requirements in technology development (non-disclosure agreements, intellectual property protection, etc.).
Hands-on lab skills and ability to define and execute complex experiments.
Ability to solve complex technical problems independently
Ability to work with diverse cultures to build strong relationships within AE, with AE’s customers, and with global technology communities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Location: Fort Collins, Colorado
Environment: Office, lab, customer facilities (both engineering and production)
Some domestic and international travel is required, approximately 10%.
In office first.
EXPERIENCE:
Essential:
8 years of hands-on experience in plasma processing and power supply technologies.
Extensive knowledge of plasma power delivery products and technology.
Knowledge of electrical engineering, RF, and plasma physics principles.
Experience with computer driven diagnostic equipment, measurement instrumentation, and data analysis.
Preferred:
10 or more years of experience working directly with semiconductor OEMs and/or end users, power supplies, and industry processes
Advanced understanding of electrical engineering, RF, and plasma physics principles, including RF amplifier topologies, impedance matching network and plasma chamber design, and practical applications of plasma science.
Able to mentor and train others on these topics.
Experience with industry standards and user groups.
EDUCATION:
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or similar.
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or similar.
COMPENSATION:
As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $106,500 to $156,500 per year.
