POSITION SUMMARY:

Advanced Energy is currently seeking an Intern or Postdoctoral Engineer to support R&D and project development activities at our Fort Collins design center.

The successful candidate will work directly with a team of experienced Application Technologists on plasma systems for both etching and deposition, along with emerging technologies in plasma processes for semiconductor fabrication.

REPONSIBILITIES:

Candidates may perform and support R&D and product design activities related to any of the following:

  • Assist in the evaluation and testing of prototype power supply units. Use learnings to contribute to the Best-Known Methods for the Application Technology team.

  • Analyze test data and reports against functional and performance specifications.

  • Assist a team which defines the technical product requirements for new products and features.

  • Mentor Field Applications Engineers by advancing their knowledge and understanding of customer processes, AE products, measurement and analytical techniques, and customer technologies.

  • Advance AE’s Intellectual Property and technical reputation by contributing to publications, patents, and presentations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Ability to work in a lab environment evaluating product specification compliance using tools including oscilloscopes, power meters, multimeters, network analyzers, Langmuir probes, and FTIR spectrometers.

  • Ability to work independently with limited guidance and as part of a team.

  • Basic understanding of semiconductor industry trends and technical requirements to help guide the product group’s technology roadmap and to determine the appropriate AE solutions.

  • With provided training, ability to serve as consultant to peer groups within AE (Marketing, Product Management, Engineering and Sales) in support of new product development and new business opportunities.

  • Strong technical and non-technical verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Windows-based platforms and with computer-based design and analysis tools, working knowledge of MS Office Suite.

  • Proficient in both English and Japanese languages.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with programming / scripting languages (MATLAB, Python, Labview, or others). Ability to modify existing code or willingness to learn.

  • Advanced technical knowledge of AE’s products and technology, as well as industry process requirements and trends, to enable successful deployment of AE’s technology to customers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Location: Fort Collins, Colorado

  • Environment: Office, lab, and customer facilities

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Extensive knowledge of electrical engineering, RF, and plasma physics principles.

  • Working knowledge of plasma power delivery products and technology.

  • Experience with computer driven diagnostic equipment, measurement instrumentation, data analysis.

Preferred:

  • 1-2 years of direct experience in plasma processing and power supply technologies.

  • Experience working directly with semiconductor OEMs and/or end users, power supplies and industry processes.

EDUCATION:

For Internship:

  • Candidates working towards a master’s or Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, or Material Science.

For Postdoctoral Engineer:

  • Ph. D in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, or Material Science.

COMPENSATION:

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $30 to $38 per hour.
