Description of Work Unit

Provides landscaping services, care, renovation, repair and maintenance of all grounds at Colorado State University.

Position Summary

Position performs landscape maintenance services, plant material maintenance to provide a safe and clean environment in assigned areas.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years (24 months) of progressively responsible grounds care and maintenance experience on a large scale assignment (golf course, campus, parks, etc.) which must have included fixing, repairing, and replacing sprinkler components and irrigation systems.

  • Current, valid Driver’s License (Regular)

A very strong candidate will offer creative vision for an award-winning campus landscape and a flexible, helpful approach to the team and customers across campus. Additionally, a strong candidate will offer several of the following preferred qualifications:

  • An Associate’s Degree or higher in Horticulture, Landscape Design, Botany, Plant or Soil Sciences, Arboriculture, or closely related field of study.

  • Certification or Licensure in pesticide application, landscape technician (ornamental, irrigation, turf, arboriculture), or closely related technical training. Please attach any related certifications/licenses with your application in the Applicant Documents section

  • Prior experience supervising crews.

  • A demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships with teammates and customers through strong communication.

  • Knowledge of a wide variety of plant species and landscape principles.

  • Prior experience operating and maintaining landscape equipment.

    Essential Job Duties

    Duty/Responsibility

Performs landscape maintenance of grass, trees, shrubs, other plant material and beds, including hand mowing, string trimming, shrub pruning, planting bed maintenance. Performs landscape clean up including litter removal, hard surface cleaning, leaf raking and removal.

Identifies disease, insect infestation, and need for pruning or thinning of plant material. Recommends and carries out remedies to include mixing and applying herbicide/insecticide, ensuring proper pruning or removal of plant material. Identifies problem areas in landscape design of past practices and recommends design changes or proper steps to rejuvenate.
