Barr Engineering Co. Electrical Engineer - Entry Level (Hybrid) in Fort Collins, Colorado
Job Description:
Summary: The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise.Work will include preparing designs, studies, and specifications for medium- to high-voltage facilities including substations, transmission lines, distribution lines, generation (renewable and other), and energy storage systems. Primary customers will be electric utilities, renewable energy developers, and large industrial customers.
The ideal candidate must be self-directed and quality driven with enthusiasm for new challenges and a desire to learn. Typical tasks will include completing calculations and analyses; developing design details; preparing drawings, specifications, sketches, and cost estimates; selecting equipment; assisting withwriting proposals and reports; and communicating with clients under the supervision of a registered professional engineer. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with academic coursework focused on power or control systems
0 to 5years of relevant experience
Computer skills and familiarity with AutoCAD, Excel, and Word
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with team members in a high-energy working environment that encourages self-initiative
A flexible working style and a willingness to modify personal schedules as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to the job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineeringor utility organization
Power distribution, substation, and/or transmission line design experience
Understanding of protective relays
Understanding of short-circuit, loadflow, arc flash, and coordinationanalysis
Familiarity with power studies using computer software such as SKM or ETAP is a plus
Willingness to learn new skills
Proven project or task management skills
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certified (passed Fundamentals of Engineering exam) or ability to obtain within one year
GPA 3.0 or greater
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Fort Collins or Wheat Ridge, Colorado, offices.
Colorado Applicants Only: Compensation: The anticipated base salary range for this position is $69,888-92,622.40/year. Compensation will vary based on experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus.
