Description of Work Unit

Veterinary Teaching Hospital

At the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital ( VTH ), we exist to educate the next generation of veterinarians by providing exceptional veterinary care and service to the community every day. This work unit exists to care for the basic needs of animals at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and to provide routine disinfection and service to all areas of the hospital, which serves as a teaching facility for veterinary students, as a medical facility for veterinary research, and as a public animal health clinic for exotic, large and small animals.

Position Summary

Be the Unsung Hero of Our Veterinary Teaching Hospital!

Do you take pride in creating clean, safe, and welcoming environments? Our Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Colorado State University is looking for a dedicated Custodian to join our team. In this vital role, you’ll ensure our facilities shine, supporting our mission to provide exceptional care to animals and a great workplace for our staff. If you have an eye for detail and a commitment to excellence, we want you to help us maintain a top-notch environment where life-saving work happens every day!

This position exists to perform daily cleaning and disinfection of the Critical Care Unit, Small Animal Isolation Units and Urgent Care areas of the hospital. This is also to include the prevention of infectious disease spread to other areas of the hospital and to other patients within these high-risk areas; along with the laundering of bedding material. This position reports directly to the Custodial Services Supervisor.

Day, night and evening shifts available seven days a week.

This is an essential worker position and must be willing and able to report to work as directed to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay or interruption.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

A signing bonus of $1,000 max is available for successful candidates.

Required Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED .

  • Cleaning experience in a commercial environment.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Experience providing custodial services in a medical environment.

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with custodial equipment including vacuum cleaners, shampoo machines, wet/dry vacuums, floor scrubbing and/or polishing machines, buffing and/or other related cleaning operations.

  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and cleaning products.

  • Reliable with strong work ethic.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Duty/Responsibility

Clean and maintain building interiors, following sanitary standards

  • Wash, wipe, dust, scrub, scour, disinfect, vacuum, sweep, mop, buff, and polish surfaces, floors, walls, windows, blinds, lavatories, mirrors, furnishings, and fabric.

  • Dust and disinfect exam lights, viewing windows and ledges, phones canister and miscellaneous medical equipment.

  • Clean and disinfect clinical work areas using special cleaning detergents and disinfectants, as well as special cleaning procedures, to prevent cross contamination and spread of diseases.

  • Clean and disinfect animal holding wards, cage and runs, exam and treatment tables, gurneys, cabinets, and counters, and sinks to maintain sanitary conditions and prevent disease transmission, following special disinfection cleaning protocols (to include all the walls, cages, canisters, floors, trash and laundry bins, etc.) with disinfectant.

  • Scrub and clean dirty dishes and restock.

Deep Cleaning

  • Strip and wax hard floors

  • Shampoo carpets and upholstery

Laundry

  • Collect, wash and dry soiled laundry onsite and return to proper unit.

  • Fold and put away clean laundry.

Stocking

  • Stocking areas with animal care, custodial and medical supplies (such as, but not limited to pet food, cat litter, clean laundry, paper towels, soap, disinfectant, etc.)
