VTC/AV Technician

Location:Fort Belvoir , VA

Job Purpose

Provide specialized technical assistance and expertise for mission specific systems.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Provide A/V VTC support services for Classified and Unclassified Cisco/Tandberg VTC Systems.

  • Monitor and check all VTC systems daily to ensure optimal performance of all systems.

  • Schedule regular maintenance service call with the VTC maintenance provider on a bi-monthly basis for Preventive Maintenance Services (PMS).

  • Facilitate the organization-s Classified and Unclassified VTC systems responsible for coordinating internal connectivity between the organization and DoD/Army locations and remote connectivity to locations worldwide, to include US Allied partners, utilizing DISA-s Global Video Services (GVS)

  • Coordinate with distant end facilitators, including US Allied facilitators, to schedule and conduct pre-tests for all requested and scheduled VTCs.

  • Schedule VTCs on the organization-s Multipoint Conferencing Unit (MCU), through the DISA GVS or direct connection with other command/activities MCUs or a combination of the two depending on the technology needed to reach the far end stations.

  • Ensure the organization-s MCU is pre-tested with other command/activities MCUs when the organization is the host of a VTC conference/session requiring the use of an MCU.

  • Ensure the organization-s MCU is pre-tested and operational to support the organization-s hosted recurring bi-weekly current operations VTC conference with forward deployed analysts and US Allied partners.

  • Coordinate with the organization-s designated current operations team, in advance, to pre-test with all current operations participants a day prior to ensure each participant can successfully connect and stay connected to the MCU.

  • Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME)/tier one and tier two technical support during ongoing VTCs to all sites scheduled in the VTC on the organization-s MCUs by monitoring all active VTC connections to the MCU in real-time during each scheduled VTC conference/session to ensure a rapid response and resolution to potential technical difficulties such as loss of VTC connectivity, loss of audio, video distortions, and reduced bandwidth.

  • Schedule and conduct testing with sites having trouble connecting into the organizations MCU.

  • Coordinate with facilitators of other sites experiencing connection difficulties to organization-s MCU to schedule times conducive for testing to diagnose and resolve connection issues.

  • Provide support for all types of CODECS, Polycom Multimedia Gateway Control (MGC) (classified and unclassified), crypto devices (KIV-19, KIV-7, and Taclane), routers, switchers,

  • and other audio/video devices.

  • Perform operations and maintenance on VTC audio/video equipment in all conference rooms, control rooms, ensuring all systems are operational by conducting daily operational connectivity tests on all VTC audio/video equipment to ensure operability.

    Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Active Secret Clearance

  • Two (2) - Five (5) years of video teleconferencing/audio visual experience

  • Working knowledge of the following VTC/AV equipment:

  • CMS 1000

  • Cisco Room Kit Pro

  • Cisco SX80, DX80, SX20, C40

  • AMX/Extron touchpanel/video switcher

  • CMA (Cisco Media Application)

  • DISA GVS (Global Video System)

  • VCS (Video Communication Server

  • DSP (Digital Signal Processing)/Biamp

  • Highly organized and detailed with the ability to prioritize

  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal supervision

    Working Conditions

    Primarily in an office environment. Will be expected to travel as needed to company subsidiaries or contract locations. Periodic weekend or evening work is expected.
