Position Title: Production Manager, Plant Operations

Location: Forest, Virginia

Job Summary:

In support of the site plant manager, the Production Manager is responsible for leading and directing the strategic planning and day-to-day activities of all off-shift operational and weekend operations. The successful candidate will plan, control, and administer production schedules, production costs and quality standards, employee relations and crewing requirements with company policies and operational plans. Assure communication of policies, production, costs, and standards to all employees. Analyze employee efficiency, including training needs, reviewing safety, and housekeeping. The production manager will identify operational procedures and opportunities for long-term continuous improvement.

Job Duties:

  • Assist in developing annual manufacturing plan and establish procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products meet company quality standards.

  • Direct and lead production supervisors and shift leaders to accomplish goals of the manufacturing plan.

  • Act as liaison between executive, management, and subordinate levels to inform personnel of communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect their performance, attitudes and results.

  • Employee Relations responsibilities partnering with Human Resources

  • Identify, recommend and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework data.

  • Provide leadership on continuous improvements, lean manufacturing OEE for the facilities

  • Direct and coordinate various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (e.g., training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, worker involvement, security, etc.).

  • Initiate and coordinate major projects, (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.).

  • Teach & support the teams in using problem solving & tracking tools

  • Perform regular & periodic validation of each project / initiative with each function or operating unit.


  • B.S. in Engineering/Operations Management, Business or equivalent10+ years of progressive experience in Engineering/Operations Management

  • 5+ years experience managing a significant segment of a large manufacturer or the entire operation of a smaller manufacturer as site or operations leader

  • 3+ years strategic initiatives design, financial budgeting, capital appropriationLean/Six Sigma & Project Leadership, preferred

  • Previous change management experience, driving engagement and culture

  • Strong leadership skills and proven ability to organize and manage projects with positive results.

  • Ability to build trust and interact with all levels of the organization, up to and including senior management.

  • Creative, reliable, organized, adaptable, flexible, innovative, and a self-starter.

  • Ability to motivate, develop people, communicate, listen and perceive.

  • Professionally challenges current and/or traditional ways of thinking and lead new ways/approaches.

  • Must be able to prioritize issues and assign appropriate resources for resolution

  • Ability to communicate effectively and honestly with all customers and provide solutions to problems in a timely fashion; define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Working Conditions

  • This a “hands-on” role that must measure results in obtaining our business objectives

  • Conscious of safety principles working in a safety orientated fast-paced manufacturing environment

  • Exposure to loud noises and scent

  • Works both an office and manufacturing environment that requires working in extreme conditions or uncontrolled temperature environments

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand for an extended amount of time, walk and reach with hands and arms.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

  • Occasional travel
