Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Student Health and Wellness, the Director of Recreational Services provides strategic leadership for the department, and is a member of the leadership team for the Division of Student Affairs. As an important part of student life, the department serves as the convener for multiple activities, programs, facilities, and partnerships that support the fitness and well-being of the campus community.

Responsibilities*

Leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership and ongoing development to six full-time reports, with attention to the role that recreation plays in the greater context of well-being
  • Support student learning by directing development of impactful student staff/student leader trainings, along with opportunities for engagement and employment at a variety of levels
  • Manage operating budgets to ensure alignment with fiscal allocation and goals of the department
  • Ensure focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging goals in all aspects of Recreation operations and programs, including physical space and policies
  • Serve on the Student Affairs Leadership Team and on committees

Oversight

  • Oversee department capital and special projects, including development and oversight of long-term maintenance plans for department facilities
  • Collaborate with professional staff to monitor risk management procedures. Ensure all safety practices are implemented and followed
  • Provide direction for strategic marketing and communications for the department
  • Support planning of wellbeing programs, events and spaces
  • Promote positive customer experiences and address customer concerns, when needed
  • Establish and maintain internal controls related to financial business practices
  • Maintain compliance with all university policies, required trainings, and applicable laws

Strategy & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with division leadership and department staff for short and long-term strategic planning and policy development
  • Participate in routine assessment practices to monitor and evaluate department offerings to to meet evolving student and patron needs
  • Collaborate with the Student Health & Wellness team, campus partners, and the community to support student well-being
  • Partner with University Advancement on fundraising projects and donor relations
  • Remain up to date with ational trends and best practices as identified through NIRSA, NASPA, American Council on Exercise, and other associations
Required Qualifications*
  • Must a be a current UM-Flint Staff member.
  • A master's degree in college student personnel, higher education administration, recreation, sports management, or related field is required
  • Five or more years progressive experience related to the job responsibilities.
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR
