McLaren Health Care Director of Operations - GME / Residency Clinics - McLaren Careers in Flint, Michigan

Reports to: Associate Chief Academic Officer

Position Summary:

Responsible for the operation of multiple GME ambulatory sites, implementation of strategic plan and mission, employee and patient experience, financial performance of sites, improvement of quality of services, coordination and integration of services with McLaren Health Care subsidiaries.

Provides leadership support to Associate Designated Institutional Officials, Clinic Operations Managers, residents, and providers, promotion of services, and ensures all regulatory compliance. Responsible for working in collaboration with providers to manage overall operations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Assures standardization of operations within defined regional area, aligned with system wide strategic priorities.

  2. Researches and implements new directives for business growth.

  3. Maximize efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration.

  4. Creates clarity and sets expectations with regards to ambulatory clinic optimization assuring standardized approach to attaining defined operational metrics.

  5. Engage staff and providers to promote team building and collaboration and contribute to the success of the clinics quality, fiscal, employee and patient experience.

  6. Maintains established policies, procedures, and objectives that include revenue cycle functions, quality assurance, environmental, and infection control policies.

  7. Ensures that quality services are provided according to established policies and procedures.

  8. Works in a collaborative dyed with the department specific Medical Director.

  9. Resolves any medical-administrative problems and keeps lines of communication open with staff to ensure high employee morale and a professional clinic atmosphere.

  10. Interacts frequently with providers and staff regarding the business and clinical operations of the practice.

  11. Support Clinic Operations Managers in the day to day operations of the practice. Analyzes and supports changes in office organizational systems, policies and procedures, and ensures that there is standardization and implementation.

  12. Drives optimization of system wide initiatives such as: LEAN, One McLaren, Communication strategies, acquisitions, cascading huddles, provider, patient, and staff satisfaction.

  13. Develops all operating budgets and volume projections consistent with objectives and Strategic Plan.

  14. Works with the Associate Designated Institutional Officials, to develop their department goals, forecasts, plans, and budgets.

  15. Assists Clinic Operations Managers in the organization of their practice functions and their departmental staffing patterns.

  16. Participates in selection of Operations Management. Evaluates, develops, disciplines and, when necessary, recommends termination of these personnel.

  17. Monitors physician activities for contractual and physician time off compliance and advises Associate Designated Institutional Officials, on matters of concern.

  18. Reviews and reconciles annual physician compensation model financials.

  19. Ensures policies and operations comply with regulations and rules of regulating and accrediting bodies, including the ACGME.

  20. Reviews and assists Clinic Operations Managers in interpreting practice statistical and financial indicators and recommends adjustments to any anticipated or unexpected changes from acceptable variances.

  21. Ensures that reports required for ACGME practices sites are provided monthly to GME team.

  22. Actively participates and facilitates the resident retention efforts across the systems.

  23. On-boards newly acquired practices in a manner that develops and fosters a positive experience.

Required:

1.

Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration or related field.

2.

Minimum 5 years in a progressive management position with a focus on program development, provider relations, marketing or in an Operations Specialist position.

3.

Travel approximately 70 percent.

4.

Current Michigan driver’s license and proof of valid automobile insurance.

5.

Insurable under McLaren’s insurance program.

6.

Must possess and consistently use excellent communication skills and teamwork problem-solving skills in order to develop relationships with regional providers.

Preferred

1.

Experience in specific department (Primary Care, Ortho/Neuro/Cardio, Medical/Surgical or Access) clinical operations.

2.

Master’s degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration or related field.

3.

Previous managerial experience in physician-hospital practice integration and applicable program development.

4.

Experience in strategic planning, marketing, sales, networking and affiliations, physician practice development, referral base development, or outreach programs in health care is highly preferred.
