Position Summary
The Michigan State University and Hurley Children’s Hospital Pediatric Public Health Initiative (https://msuhurleypphi.org/), under the direction of Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, seeks to hire a Data Manager to work on the Rx Kids research study team. Rx Kids (https://flintrxkids.com/) is the first citywide unconditional cash allowance prenatal and infant program in the United States. This $55-million-dollar public health research intervention aims to eliminate infant poverty and evaluate the health impact of expanding Rx Kids as the new social contract for how society should take care of families.
The Data Manager will support activities related to data collection, management, and reporting. Research or quality improvement activities may occur remotely, at the MSU Flint location and/or at local medical clinics or hospitals.
Activities supported by the Data Manager may include:
Developing study protocols and manuals of procedures related to data collection, entry, management and analysis
Collecting and entering data
Creating and managing study databases and data dictionaries
Importing, merging, and transforming large datasets
Linking person level data from multiple large data sources
Cleaning and performing data quality checks and address missing data
Performing statistical analysis including creating calculated or computed variables
Writing, editing, and formatting reports and manuscripts
Coordinating data activities with study staff
Communicating with investigators, participants, and stakeholders
Other research or project activities to support work, as applicable

This is a full-time, 12-month end-dated position located in Flint, MI.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master's in Educational Administration, Statistics, Economics or Research Methodology; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research design, statistical methods and knowledge of computer hardware and software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Experience collecting and managing data; proficient in using a variety of statistics software (e.g. STATA, SAS, SPSS, R, etc); ability to translate data between statistical software programs; experience working with large datasets – importing, merging, and transforming data; knowledge of maternal and infant outcome data and/or administrative data a plus; ability to perform statistical analysis such as regression and causal inference; authored or co-authored peer-reviewed publications; excellent oral and written skills with the ability to write and conduct daily communications; able to work independently in an organized and efficient manner; pays attention to detail; self-starter; highly self-motivated; adept at working in large, interdisciplinary teams; quick learner and high sense of responsibility and honesty; experience working with underserved families from culturally and economically diverse populations; understanding the history, systemic inequities, and experiences related to the Flint; and demonstrates the values consistent with PPHI: Respect, Teamwork, Diversity, Equity, Kindness, Integrity, Humility, Inclusion, Community, Optimism.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Statistics, Mathematics, Research Methodology, or Public Health with relevant course work in computer programming; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in programming, statistical methods, data base management or data collection; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
