Position Summary

The Michigan State University-Hurley Children’s Hospital Pediatric Public Health Initiative (https://msuhurleypphi.org/)in the Division of Public Health at Michigan State University invites applicants for the position a full or part-time, fixed-term (non-tenure track), Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Research Professor. This position will be based in Flint, Michigan. The overall mission of the Pediatric Public Health Initiative (PPHI) is to improve the outcomes of Flint children. Through community and clinical programs, childhood health policy and advocacy, and robust evaluation, the PPHI works with many partners, including Flint's heroic parents and kids, as a center of excellence, with the primary goal of mitigating the impact of the Flint Water Crisis and serving as a national resource for best practices. The PPHI is driven by five work teams: Child and Health Development, Nutrition, Exposure Assessment, Health Informatics, and Child Health Policy and Advocacy. These teams work closely with the PPHI Parent Partner Group and the PPHI Flint Youth Justice League.

The Professor will conduct independent research studies in the PPHI to address the Flint community’s population-wide lead exposure and improve outcomes of Flint children. The Professor will take a lead role in designing new interventions and/or studies, developing grant proposals, conducting data analyses, preparing manuscripts for conferences and publications, and directing research projects in PPHI.

The academic rank will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications. This position is a 12-month fixed-term appointment. Reappointment of position is contingent on funding and performance.

Doctorate -Public Health

Minimum Requirements

Qualified candidates for the ranks of Ast., Asc., or Full Prof. will have a MD, PhD, in public health, environmental health, statistics, epidemiology, health services research, health policy, psychology, or related discipline. Bachelor's degree is required for the rank of Ast. Inst. and a Master's degree is required for the rank of Inst. or equivalent degree in related discipline.

Desired Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated interest in public health, environmental health, trauma, health inequities/disparities, implementation/translation research, and/or longitudinal research.
