Position Summary:
Marathon Pipe Line’s (MPL) Analyst (Technical Project Coordinator) position provides the opportunity to work within MPL’s Damage Prevention, Technology, and Analytics team (DPT&A). The position will interact closely with various MPL Process departments, MPL Field Operations personnel, MPC Information Technology (IT), and Logistics and Storage Support Services (L3S).
As an integral part of the DPT&A Team, the Technical Project Coordinator will oversee the Computer Vision Threat and Leak Detection project, an industry-leading digital operations effort that aims to quickly identify leaks and threats to our facilities. The Project Coordinator will provide project management expertise and strategic direction to the team to ensure resourcing and priorities are most efficiently aligned with business value.
In addition, the Technical Project Coordinator will provide consultation and guidance to MPL’s Geographic Information System (GIS) team. MPL’s GIS is a business-critical database documenting over 8200 miles of mainline piping and all related geographic features. This system is linked to many MPL critical processes such as Damage Prevention, Regulatory Compliance, and Integrity Management. The Technical Project Coordinator should have a working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the associated databases and be able to provide strategic direction on improvements to the system and processes as well as how the Company can best leverage this platform within daily operations and digital operations solutions such as Advanced ROW Inspection.
Other salary grades may be applicable, pending candidate experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintains and communicates project status and progress as well as performance metrics such as cost, schedule, reliability, and performance to leadership and key stakeholders.
Participates in strategic vision discussions with stakeholders and develops digital transformation concepts for FSP into executable projects and deliverables.
Manages schedule and budget for Computer Vision Threat and Leak Detection and other digital transformation projects as needed to optimize resources, cost, and impact.
Collaborates closely with MPC’s IT organization and advocates for business priorities and objectives within IT workload.
Develops and maintains working knowledge and ability to apply standards and regulatory requirements to the scope of Computer Vision Threat and Leak Detection and other digital transformation projects.
Collaborates with other departments, technicians, and vendors to obtain pertinent information to complete the planning, design, and execution of proposed projects.
Interfaces with and directs technology solution providers during project execution.
Leads team in evaluating emerging technologies for use in meeting MPL goals.
Recommends, implements, and maintains appropriate controls, standards and procedures for GIS data maintenance and related processes.
Provides strategic input and ideas for improved growth and value of MPL GIS team.
Stays abreast of emerging GIS technologies and software updates.
Evaluates and recommends new GIS tools and solutions to enhance workflows.
Collaborates with IT to create and maintain GIS infrastructure, including servers and data storage systems.
Maintains understanding of High Consequence Area (HCA) and Spill Modeling processes on Marathon Pipe Line Assets and provides guidance on process enhancements.
Develops documentation and administers training to key stakeholders on GIS processes.
Provides training and technical support to junior team members on data analysis methods and software usage.
Shares knowledge and best practices within the GIS team.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in business, GIS, IT, Engineering or related fields required.
8+ years related experience in Project Management, Pipeline Operations, IT, GIS, and/or Surveying experience. Data Analytics background is a plus.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required to effectively communicate complex topics to all levels of individuals/employees.
Strong critical and strategic thinking skills.
Strong project management skills, including working knowledge of a scheduling platform such as Microsoft Project.
Advanced proficiency in ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Online platforms.
Strong understanding of geospatial data formats, coordinate systems, and projection principles.
Experience with data manipulation, scripting languages (e.g., Python), and database management.
Experience with raster data processing and manipulation.
Experience with Cloud Platforms (Azure, AWS, etc.).
Experience in the Pipeline industry preferred.
AGILE development familiarity preferred.
Computer Vision technology and edge computing experience and familiarity preferred.
Experience in cross functional teams deploying technology solutions is preferred.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENT:
Expected travel is 10%.
A driver's license is required.
OFFICE LOCATION:
- Open for other locations but Findlay, Ohio is strongly preferred.
