Owens Corning Senior Reliability Engineer in Feura Bush, New York
Purpose of the Job
The primary role of the Senior Reliability Engineer (RE) is to utilize engineering practices to drive out sources of failure and losses in equipment and processes. This role will be involved in the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and specifically the Planned Maintenance (PM) Pillar. As part of the PM Pillar, the Reliability Engineer will identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations. The RE is involved in Early Management (EM) for design and installation stages of Capital projects for new assets and modification of existing assets, and conducts and develops various analytical methods for determining reliability of components, equipment and processes
This role acquires process and equipment data, provides analysis of the data to include preparation of charts, diagrams, calculations, and reports and information to frame, and define reliability problems and make recommendations & executes improvements. The level of reliability required for an asset will consider the criticality ranking, the economic limitations for equipment up/down time, repair/replacement costs, availability of materials/equipment, etc. The Reliability Engineer will be accountable for eliminating unplanned equipment downtime and develop plans to reduce or eliminate production losses and abnormally high maintenance costs. Executes or follows the execution of the plan intended to drive improved reliability and engage with individuals and teams to achieve break through results. This role must be capable of chartering holistic reliability programs with clear business case and value proposition, align with the plant and manufacturing leadership, and executing the program with Change Management elements included.

The Owens Corning Delmar Insulation Plant is a flagship plant within the OC Network that has been in operation for 45 years producing Fiberglas Insulation.
The plant operates two production lines 24/7 and employs 250 individuals.
Since 2020, Owens Corning has invested $60MM+ into the Delmar facility specifically to bring in more automated equipment and advanced technologies.
The plant has $300MM worth of equipment assets and is the highest volume producer of residential insulation within OC producing more than 360MM lbs annually.
Delmar utilizes the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) operating model. Since 2018, the plant has been on a TPM journey with goals to achieve JIPM Level 1 in the coming years.
This plant is a strong exporter of talent to higher roles within OC and within the plant team.
Reports to : Maintenance Leader
Span of Control : Predictive Maintenance Department with 2 direct reports.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Live the safety stand, adhere to the safety responsibilities
Lead execution of monthly team safety requirements
Educate team members on safe operations.
Effectively communicate Owens Corning’s stand on safety throughout the Operations Department
Perform reporting and investigation of all safety incidents, driving to root cause and permanent resolution.
Drives the elimination of production losses
Tracks production losses and high maintenance-cost assets to determine ways to reduce losses and/or high costs
Prioritizes findings to focus efforts on the largest/most critical opportunities
Develops a plan (in partnership with the operations and maintenance teams) to eliminate or reduce the losses through root cause analysis
Obtains approval of the plan and facilitates the implementation.
Leads or assists in Division Reliability initiatives and projects
Manages risk to the achievement of the plant’s strategic objectives
Drives risk reduction projects in the areas of environmental health and safety, asset capability, quality and production
Employs analytical tools to identify and reduce risks
Provides input to a risk management plan that will anticipate reliability-related and non-reliability-related risks that could adversely impact plant operations.
Develops engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations
Improves plant asset total cost of ownership
Designs and installs stages of projects for new assets and for the modification of existing assets
Ensures the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations in partnership with project engineers and the Delmar Technical and Operations Departments.
Drives solutions in the areas of problems including capacity, quality, cost or regulatory compliance issues.
Ensuring that all information needed to support the planning process is complete and accurate.
Systematically defines, designs, develops, monitors and refines asset maintenance plans and bills of material.
Report weekly metrics of schedule compliance.
Leads and develops talent
Monitors and enforces all plant and corporate policies and procedures.
Provides candid feedback on expectations and performance to all members of team on regular basis.
Actively leads and builds effective work teams to increase plant performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintains documentation, tracks, counsels, and executes coaching and corrective action when performance issues occur.
Reviews, tracks and modifies individual training plans based on individual needs.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical or related field of study
A CMRP or CRE certification
Minimum of 5 years experience within a manufacturing or technical environment
Minimum of 5 years of leadership/supervisory experience
Strong past experience with vibration data collection/analysis, Lubrication Programs, Oil Analysis and thermography.
EXPERIENCE :
Experience working within a union environment preferred
TPM Experience – PM Pillar
Level 1 certification in Lubrication and Vibration Analysis preferred
Business system experience (Entering notifications, work orders, manipulating bills of material, part searches, running reports, etc…)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :
Ability to communicate with and engage employees at all levels of the organization
Strong background in Preventative and Predictive Maintenance techniques
Ability to analyze and use data to drive equipment improvements
Ability to manage multiple priorities or projects at one time
Demonstrates strategic planning and thinking
