Owens Corning Plant Controller - Delmar in Feura Bush, New York


The Plant Controller provides financial leadership to the Delmar Plant. This position reports directly to the plant leader with strong reporting accountability for driving results to the segment manufacturing financial leader. The Plant Controller will be responsible for maintaining a control environment that complies with the Company’s internal control policies and Sarbanes Oxley. The Plant Controller is expected to be a dynamic leader on the plant leadership team by contributing to all areas of plant management. The position is an important part of the financial talent pipeline and serves as a feeder for larger plants as well as corporate roles. This individual is also responsible for leadership of non-financial plant administrative processes such as sourcing, storeroom, scheduling, information systems, security, warehouse and storeroom.

Reports to: Plant Leader

Span of Control: Purchasing Specialist, Production Planner, Logistics Manager, and Financial Development Participants, in addition to overseeing 30+ warehouse and storeroom hourly employees


Live the Safety stand, adhere to the safety responsibilities

· Coordinate all required safety training.

· Lead execution of monthly team safety requirements

· Educate team members on safe operations.

· Effectively communicate Owens Corning’s stand on safety throughout the Operations Department

· Perform reporting and investigation of all safety incidents, driving to root cause and permanent resolution.

Operations planning

· Participates in the development of operational objectives for the plant that are aligned to Corporate and Division strategic objectives

· Leads proactive development of contingency plans, productivity improvement and corrective actions to ensure facility financial results and shareholder value is optimized.

Financial and Operational Controls

· Ensures that there is an effective and efficient system of internal controls including; data integrity, asset protection, segregation of duties, budgeting, financial reporting, information systems and adherence to corporate policies and governmental regulations (GAAP, SOX compliance, etc.)

· Drives a robust representation letter process that provides assurance and visibility to a sound internal control environment.

· Leads the Continuous Sign-off process to ensure that accountability for internal controls is clear and that processes are documented.

Reporting and analysis

· Leads financial planning, budgeting and forecasting processes

· Prepares and delivers the plant financial forecasts and projections

· Monitors the plant’s monthly closing process in conjunction with the Accounting team

· Communicates results effectively to management and non-financial personnel

· Provides in-depth analysis on variances to plan and forecast

· Provides risk analysis for contingency planning

Plant Productivity Improvement

  • Total Productive Maintenance (TPM): is fully engaged in TPM and is leading TPM cost deployment. Educates the plant of the “zero loss” financial impact across the “18 Losses”. Ensures execution of targets set through the Cost Deployment Process including identifying losses, evaluating costs, defining actions and priorities to eliminate loss, and verifying results. Puts in place a structured process to track and communicate results.

  • Lead the Office & Administration Pillar to JIPM standards

  • Leads actions in line with achieving annual targets, mitigating risk and prioritizing resource needs.

  • Leads proactive development of contingency plans, productivity improvement, and corrective actions to ensure facility optimal financial results and shareholder value.

  • Provides insightful and competitive analytics that anticipate change and drive decision making.

  • Educates plant personnel on key performance metrics.

Driving plant profitability

· Leads actions in line with achieving targets, mitigating risk and prioritizing resource needs

· Leads proactive development of contingency plans, productivity improvement and corrective actions to ensure facility financial results and shareholder value is optimized.

· Provides insightful and competitive analytics that anticipate change and drive decision making

· Provides investment analysis

· Assists in contract evaluation and negotiation

· Educates plant personnel on key performance metrics

Cross-functional leadership and team contribution

· Work across organization boundaries and all levels of the company to achieve plant, division or corporate objectives

· Shares best practices across division, i.e, process improvements, financial modeling and procedures changes.

· Aligns teams and resources in order to solve problems and drive results

· Provides support to team members at plant, segment and corporate level

Leading and developing talent

· Creates an environment where talent is developed through effective performance management, talent evaluation systems and utilization of people.

· Acts as a resource to the non-financial leaders of the business providing education and training on the key principles of Finance

· Invests in the growth and development of their direct reports and other identified talent in their organization.

· Ensures succession plans are executed for focus roles

Plant process and administrative leadership

· Leads non-financial plant administrative processes such as sourcing, scheduling, warehouse and shipping (location dependent).

· Assigns resources and provides support and direction as needed.



· Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or relevant discipline a must. MBA, CMA, CPA preferred.

· Five years of experience in a manufacturing operation


· Providing leadership to organizations within a manufacturing operation(s)—leading operations planning, savings, forecasting and investment analysis

· Operating in a range of economic conditions, i.e. expansion, contraction, stable economic conditions—forecasting, scenario planning, risk analysis and contingency development.

· Delivering continuous improvement.

· Participating in the development of strategic plans.

· Negotiating, developing and evaluating customer and supplier contracts

· Attracting, developing and retaining outstanding talent—growing talent and succession planning.

· Demonstrated high growth in previous experience

  • The Owens Corning Delmar Insulation Plant is a flagship plant within the OC Network that has been in operation for 45 years producing Fiberglas Insulation.

  • The plant operates two production lines 24/7 and employs 250 individuals.

  • Since 2020, Owens Corning has invested $60MM+ into the Delmar facility specifically to bring in more automated equipment and advanced technologies.

  • The plant has $300MM worth of equipment assets and is the highest volume producer of residential insulation within OC producing more than 360MM lbs annually.

  • Delmar utilizes the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) operating model. Since 2018, the plant has been on a TPM journey with goals to achieve JIPM Level 1 in the coming years.
