E&I Maintenance Supervisor

Summary Description

Primarily responsible for leading the electrical/instrumentation (E/I) technicians in their area. Responsible for safety, training and assignment of work to maintenance personnel. Oversee maintenance spending in their area along with the other members of the maintenance team (maintenance planner, operating department maintenance coordinator and operating department superintendent). Ensure that all corporate, division and mill safety and environmental rules/procedures are followed. Work with technicians to make sure the proper parts and equipment are being used to complete all maintenance work appropriately for the safety of all impacted. Responsible for maintaining equipment to achieve maximum uptime at the lowest possible cost.

Goals and Responsibilities

  • Trouble shooting equipment and providing direction to mechanics.

  • Attend field day meetings.

  • Visit storeroom to look at parts.

  • Own the training and development of your crew.

  • Maximize the engagement and productivity of your crew.

  • Promptly address performance issues.

  • Attend training & other meetings.

  • Conduct safety audits of mechanics & work area.

  • Working night & weekend duty assignments supervising mechanics.

  • Attend daily planning with area maintenance team.

  • Visit work sights to review mechanics work, etc.

  • Hold tool box safety & morning assignment meeting.

  • Filling out daily time sheets for mechanics.

  • Lead with a relentless pursuit to improve. Be an active member on mill/corporate improvement teams in development and promotion of best practices.

  • Ensure the safety and health of all team members and those who are in the work area.

Adhere to all mill safety rules, participate in or may lead safety programs and meetings with the goal of improving safety at the mill. Supports the mill’s Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) values

  • Demonstrates active caring for employees

  • Conducts Safety Observations and Safety Audits

  • Conducts incident investigations on all accidents- Ensures corrective actions are implemented

  • Audits Safety procedure compliance

  • Plans for emergencies

  • Ensures personal protective equipment is utilized properly

  • Conducts regular safety meetings / communications

  • Ensures employees receive appropriate safety training

  • Ensures safe operating practices are reviewed with employees

Critical Learning Experiences

  • Experience in a manufacturing leadership role required (prior temporary set-ups are included).

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required (preferably in a technical discipline).

  • Proven leadership skills in developing strategies to attain performance objectives required.

  • Experience using reliability tools preferred (e.g., Pareto analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA)).

  • Experience working with E/I predictive maintenance tools and precision maintenance preferred.
