Bureau of Reclamation Engineering Technician (Civil) in Farmington, New Mexico

Duty Location: Farmington, New Mexico For more information click here Responsibilities Uses databases to maintain engineering data and records. Participates in the development, maintenance, and/or operation of engineering data collection and storage systems. Ensures necessary data and records are properly classified, stored, collected, updated, maintained, archived, and retained in accordance with applicable records management policies and practices. Drafts technical documentation for assigned engineering work assignments Keeps records, prepares reports, reviews findings, and makes recommendations and suggestions to higher graded technicians and supervisor. Extracts data from a variety of sources and interprets the data with consideration of the source characteristics; recognizes and reports errors, inconsistencies, and other deficiencies in technical data. Provides administrative support in connection with regulatory compliance program oversight. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National. To qualify at the GS-07, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-06 in Federal service. Specialized experience at this level is defined as having experience in two of the following duties: 1. Gathering and/or extracting data to prepare reports; 2. Assists with cost estimates; 3. Drafting technical documentation for engineering and/or construction work assignments; 4. Reviewing invoices for payment; 5. Reviewing estimates for accuracy; 6. Entering data into an automated system and reviewing for accuracy. OR, One (1) full year of graduate education that is DIRECTLY related to work of this position. To qualify at the GS-08, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-07 in Federal service. Specialized experience at this level is defined as having experience in one or more of the following duties: 1. Performing technical analysis of construction schedules, proposals, submittals, modifications, or other contractor- provided documentation. 2. Developing plans, specifications, or cost estimates for proposed or ongoing projects. 3. Reviewing drawings and design analysis for conformance with established engineering standards 4. Drafting technical documentation for engineering work assignments. 5. Reviewing statements of work, construction schedules, and contractor payment requests. 6. Conducting pre-award activities to ensure contractor work meets requirements and standards. 7. Drafting drawings using design software. 8. Preparing change orders, modifications, or technical review of claims, and preparing cost estimates. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b). You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including time-in-grade restrictions and any selective placement factors if applicable, by 09/19/2024. Education This vacancy announcement allows substituting education for experience at the GS- 07 grade level. You must submit a copy of college transcript(s) (unofficial copy is acceptable) to support claimed education if substituting education for experience. Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred. A typed list of courses, grades, semester/quarter hours, GPA, etc. will not be accepted. An official transcript must be sent directly from the University's Registrar's office and must be provided from the institution awarding the degree. Accreditation: Only education from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education is acceptable to meet education requirements or to substitute for experience, if applicable.
