Recruitment Notice --Transmission Engineer

Drive System Design is a global consultancy specializing in the engineering and development of transmissions and driveline systems, for automotive, off highway, industrial and aerospace applications.  DSD offers a refreshing small-company working culture, with flexible hours, a 4 ½ day standard work week and a team-based environment. Outline of Role

• Based at the Farmington Hills, MI-USA, office with occasional work on site at client offices expected
• Some travel within the USA and to overseas client sites is also anticipated (less than 5%)
• Design with either 3D CAD, CAE simulation and analysis packages, hand calculations
• Knowledge of a transmission design analysis package (MASTA, Romax, Kissoft) would be an advantage
• Liaison with customers and suppliers
• Experience in the design of mechanical systems, rotating components an advantage
• Ability to self-motivated and driven to achieve analytical technical results
• Ability to apply knowledge of analytical techniques to the design process required
• Communicating with customers and suppliers

A high level of aptitude is expected along with the ability to determine innovative solutions to the numerous design challenges which present themselves during a typical design project. Evidence of this capability should be demonstrated by the candidate. Candidates will also be required to understand the commercial aspects of a consultancy business and to be able to present themselves and their work to a customer.

Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of transmissions and driveline systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and analysis of transmission systems and components, such as gears, shafts, housings, selector systems, clutch systems, hydraulics etc.
• Manage personal workload
• Reporting to Engineering Team Leaders with regular communication
• Maintain customer relationships and represent DSD's company principles where possible
• Presentation and communication of technical design elements to client companies
• Seek support where appropriate and maintain good levels of communication to peers and customers
• Compliance with Drive System Design processes and standards

Minimum Requirements

• Mechanical engineering design and / or analysis experience utilizing SMT MASTA, FEA software or Matlab/ Simulink
• Demonstrated design analysis capability
• Ambition to develop engineering and management skills
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
