Recruitment Notice -- Senior Business Development Engineer

To help fuel our growth in North America and expand our market presence we are seeking to add a proven business development resource to our team. The Senior Business Development Engineer will be based at our North American Technical centre in Michigan and will report to the Director of Engineering Business Development. Experience in the hands-on engineering of propulsion and actuation systems as well as participating in consultative selling is a must -- giving you a deep appreciation for DSD's value proposition.

We want you to:

  • Support, execute and help develop the DSD consultative sales process & associated tools.
  • Contribute to accurate and credible reporting of order intake and pipeline management.
  • Execute DSD's sales strategy through securing orders from an appropriate mix and balance of customers, sectors, project types and sizes.
  • Proactively frame leads: helping to shape viable solutions to our customers problems through which DSD can deliver engineering excellence.
  • Create compelling, robust proposals and present those to customers to 'close the deal'.
  • Create relationships with senior customer personnel in engineering and management functions, helping DSD become their trusted technical partner.
  • Be willing and able to travel for client visits and conferences to represent DSD, primarily within the USA and occasionally internationally.
  • Support delivery of DSD's marketing strategy to boost brand awareness and shape brand position, effectively communicating the value propositions that DSD offers its customers.
  • Be an active team player -- engaging with peers and leaders across DSD to support the effective delivery of projects and an excellent customer experience from beginning to end.
  • Leverage engineering experience to participate in project leadership as needed, representing a voice of the customer and championing their needs and requirements.
  • Be a global DSD champion, harnessing the value of a joined-up team across all DSD technical centers by sharing and effectively using business development information.
  • Identify key market trends that could influence our R&D activities and technology roadmaps.
  • Exhibit a passion for learning, new challenges and actively undertaking continued professional and personal development.

You will need:

5 years' experience in the engineering and development of propulsion systems, with experience in electrified propulsion being an advantage.

3 years' experience of a customer facing role within an engineering services environment, whether as a technical lead, program manager or in a business development role.

Experience of consultative sales is essential, whether in prospecting, framing, proposing, closing or across several of these stages of the sales process.

A proven ability to seek out and identify new sales leads by engaging organizations and individuals to identify new opportunities, developing a deep understanding of their businesses and market influences.

Experience and a proven ability to network within the aerospace, defense or off-highway sectors would be an advantage.
