Recruitment Notice -- Principal Engineer, eMachine Design

Drive System Design is a global consultancy specializing in the engineering and development of conventional and electrified transmissions and driveline systems, for automotive, off-highway, industrial, and aerospace applications.  DSD offers a refreshing working culture, with flexible hours, a 4.5 day standard work week, and a team-based environment.  Engineers are our priority; development of their technical skills & business experience is our working goal. The Principal Engineer will be based at our Farmington Hills, Michigan facility and will report to the Head of Electrified Propulsion.

We want you to:

• Utilize state of the art simulation techniques and design tools to design, develop and prototype electric drive systems
• Develop new methods to solve industry problems, generating market leading solutions
• Be responsible for the delivery of technical work packages and whole projects
• Lead by example implementing DSD's technical processes to ensure it is executed to the highest quality when developing other engineers in standards of drawings and technical reporting
• Manage multi person/cross functional projects to achieve budgeted margin and maintain an excellent relationship with customers, whilst being accountable to the operations board for their outcome
• Develop and maintaining strategic relationships on behalf of the function with key account responsibilities to maintain and build revenue streams in your sector
• Take an active role in the professional development of others within the function
• Be an active stake holder in the Electrified Powertrain functions quality system, generating and developing technical and procedural capabilities and ensuring their continuous development
• Market DSD through technical and commercial forums, conferences and white papers
• Manage challenging proposals and quotes that define the strategy of the project while mitigating technical and commercial risks

You will need:

• Extensive experience of electrified system mechanical design and/or analysis
• Demonstrable experience for the key elements of the role and responsibilities outlined above
• A deep understanding of manufacturing techniques used for electric motors for prototypes and series production
• Thorough knowledge of state of the art materials and emerging technologies
• Experience in some of the following analysis: vibration, life and NVH
• A detailed understanding of HV safety standards and creepage and clearance design rules
• To have worked in a systems engineering environment
• High standards when creating detailed 2D & 3D CAD models and drawings using best practice geometric tolerances and relevant drawing standards
• An understanding of market trends and challenges, and applications of existing technology within the industry
• A track record of innovation
• A strong technical reputation and relationship with customers and suppliers

Desirable:

• Experience in 1D and 3D thermal analysis including CFD or SPH
• An understanding of the electromagnetic design and analysis of electric motors and casing design
