Farmingdale State College Fire Management Specialist in Farmingdale, New York

Provide extensive fire and life safety services to the Farmingdale State College community. The candidate must perform the following duties:

  • Provide emergency response to fires, fire alarms, hazardous material spills and any other emergency conditions.

  • Conduct fire drills each semester and evaluate effectiveness of evacuations.

  • Investigate, inspect, evaluate and maintain all fire sprinkler, fire pump, fire extinguisher and fire alarm systems campus-wide to ensure compliance with NFPA Standards and Codes, NYS Fire Code, OSHA and any other applicable standard.

  • Evaluate facilities/equipment to identify unsafe conditions and develop preventive maintenance schedules.

  • Complete inspection and deficiency reports and provide follow-up to ensure corrective action is taken.

  • Design and conduct fire/life safety training for the college community.

  • Prepare and distribute written inspection reports in a timely manner.

  • Assist with development of building emergency plans, evacuation plans, and fire department preplanning activities.

  • Advise departments and provide interpretations and/or recommendations on fire code compliance.

  • Review construction documents and other applicable plans and advise based on relevant code/standard compliance.

  • Issue fire and life safety permits in accordance with campus policies.

  • Act as liaison with local fire departments and State Fire Marshal's Office.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

This position involves working non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.

    Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree and three (3) years professional experience in a career fire department; In lieu of degree, five (5) years experience in a career fire department OR five (5) years experience in a volunteer fire department as an active member in good standing.

  • Certified NYS Code Enforcement Officer.

  • Must have experience in sprinkler and fire alarm operating systems.

  • Experience in fire/emergency spill response.

  • Ability to understand and interpret NFPA Standards and NYS Fire Code, and any other related codes or standards.

  • Must have, keep and maintain appropriate certifications in relation to the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Fire Protection, Fire Prevention Technology or related field.

  • Ability to review construction plans and documents, develop and implement fire safety policies, procedures and guidelines.

  • Ability to prepare written correspondence to the college community and state and local agencies.

    Additional Information:

This is a full-time UUP position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Friday, August 23, 2024, and ending Friday, September 6, 2024, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

  • CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: Saturday, September 21, 2024

  • SALARY: $65,000 + $3,400 in downstate location pay = $68,400 Total Compensation. Salary may increase commensurate with experience.
