Construction Inspector / Technician

MT Group – an Intertek Company is searching for Construction Inspectors / Technicians to join our Building & Construction team in our Farmingdale, NY office. The Building & Construction team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services and building science solutions to deliver Total Quality Assurance to the built environment. The team offers the architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry with a full suite of capabilities both in the lab and on site.

What are we looking for?

The Construction Inspectors / Technicians will support the Building and Construction business by observing contractors on construction sites and performing basic testing of soil, asphalt and concrete in the field under the direction of other technicians or engineering professionals to ensure that testing, sampling, or inspection is performed consistent with project specifications. With minimal paperwork involved, all observations and test data is input on smart phones in the field for immediate transmittal to our Project Managers for review.

We are looking for ENTRY LEVEL or Construction Technicians that are NICET, ACI ICC certified.

Salary & Benefits Information

The base wage or salary range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00 per hour. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons. What you’ll do:

  • Perform a variety of tests on construction materials including asphalt, soil and concrete using materials-testing equipment

  • Perform field compaction testing, monitor paving operations and batch plant inspections

  • Read construction documents to determine project details and specifications

  • Neatly and accurately complete all required paperwork, including daily reports, test reports and timesheets – in a timely manner

  • Record and report test results after performing mathematical calculations, making graphical solutions and graphical representations

  • Communicate orally and in writing with engineers and staff members, agency representatives, contractors and business and property owners

  • Perform maintenance/cleaning of equipment and calibration and adjustments as need

  • Adhere to construction site safety guidelines and promotes a safe working environment

What it takes to be successful in this role:

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Engineering background preferred

  • Comfortable using MS Office applications (Word/Excel/Outlook)

  • Must be punctual, reliable with good attention to detail

  • Ability to climb ladders, bend, crawl, push and pull, stretch, sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record (required)

  • Certifications preferred, but not required
