Where you’ll work:
This is a hybrid onsite/remote opportunity where you will report to the customer location in Falls Church, VA and have the flexibility to work from home based on business needs.
An average day:
As Database Administrator II, you will be responsible for ensuring databases operate securely, efficiently, and reliably. Leveraging experience and technical knowledge, this role supports the design, deployment, and optimization of data systems while coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and performance targets. In this position you will:
Plan, install, configure, and maintain complex databases across classified and unclassified environments.
Develop and refine backup and recovery strategies, testing them regularly to validate integrity.
Implement and oversee data security measures, including access controls, encryption, and auditing.
Manage and optimize data workflows for bronze, silver, and gold data tables, ensuring high data quality.
Conduct performance tuning, including index optimization and query profiling, to maintain efficient operations.
Troubleshoot production issues, performing root-cause analysis and providing long-term solutions.
Collaborate with development teams to integrate database changes into CI/CD pipelines.
Participate in designing ETL strategies for large-scale data ingestion and transformation processes.
Contribute to data governance efforts, enforcing standards and best practices for database usage.
Mentor junior team members in database management and maintenance tasks.
Coordinate with AI/ML teams, optimizing database structures for analytics and model training.
Ensure adherence to compliance regulations and organizational security protocols.
Assist in Data Migration and Integration Efforts – Support the transition of data between systems by helping with Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes and ensuring data consistency across different platforms.
Monitor and Troubleshoot Database Performance Issues – Identify potential bottlenecks, perform root cause analysis, and work with senior architects to implement solutions that enhance database reliability and efficiency.
Support Compliance and Regulatory Requirements – Ensure database structures and data management practices align with industry regulations (by assisting in audits and implementing necessary compliance measures.
Basic Qualifications:
As a requirement of this position, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. In accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(2)(C) , Epsilon will not consider candidates for this position who do not meet the aforementioned conditions.
At least 3 years of experience in database administration or a closely related role.
DOD 8570 IAT Level II Certification may be required (GSEC, GICSP, CND, CySA+, Security+ CE, SSCP or CCNA-Security).
Proficiency in SQL, database tuning, and advanced query optimization.
Experience managing relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation of routine tasks.
Demonstrated ability to maintain high availability clusters and replication strategies.
Experience with performance monitoring tools (e.g., New Relic, Datadog) to diagnose database health.
Working knowledge of CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) for database change management.
Strong understanding of security standards, data encryption, and compliance (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
Knowledge of cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL, GCP Cloud SQL).
Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a focus on collaboration.
One or more of the following certifications are desired: AWS Certified Developer, Databricks, Agile/Scrum, Python Programmer
Other:
Must hold an Active DOD Secret, Top Secret or TS/SCI Clearance
Must be located within a two (2) hour commute of the physical work location
