Location: Fairport, NY
Candidates must be able to commute and work onsite in Fairport, NY
Pay Rate: Based on experience
Work Hours: M-F 8am-5pm
Education: BS in Optical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or AAS with 10+ years experience in Optics)
Travel Requirements : 10%, domestic and international. Typical travel includes training, networking, customer visits, conferences, tradeshows, and benchmarking activities.

Description
The Opto-Mechanical Process Development Engineer will work alongside the product development team to define, develop, and deliver new optical products and manufacturing processes that meet all technical requirements. This position supports both the Precision Optics (PO) and Laser Optics (LO) component and assembly manufacturing groups with product and process development responsibilities. The engineer will focus on developing new opto-mechanical production capabilities to meet product design requirements, collaborating with both the development team and plant operations group.
Responsibilities:
Champion the use of DF/X tools within product development teams, aiming for efficient designs, cost reduction, and waste elimination
Participate in Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR) for new product development
Lead Manufacturing Risk Assessments and manage Risk Reduction activities
Specify new manufacturing techniques and equipment, and create detailed product build strategies, including process flow charts, work instructions, and process sheets
Take responsibility for pre-transfer builds (prototypes & pilots), ensuring quality and timely delivery
Train manufacturing personnel on new capabilities and processes
Continuously stay current with industry trends and leverage expertise as necessary
Identify manufacturing capability gaps and recommend development activities
Use Creo CAD software for solid modeling of fixtures and tools
Set up, develop processes for, and operate new production equipment
Requirements:
Education : BS in Optical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or AAS with 10+ years experience in Optics)
Experience : 3+ years in optics, with a background in the manufacture of optical materials, components, and assemblies
Skills :
Precision hands-on optical and mechanical skills, including assembling close tolerance parts
Knowledge of optical metrology equipment such as interferometers, profilometers, and autocollimators
Experience in precision machining, measurement (CNC equipment and G-code), and optical testing (interferometry)
Familiarity with MasterCam and process development in optics
Strong communication skills for written, verbal, and formal presentations
Proficiency in Excel; knowledge of Matlab and other analytical software is a plus
Experience with clean room laboratory work and precision alignment/assembly in opto-mechanical systems
