Fairfield University Instructional Technology Support Engineer in Fairfield, Connecticut

Job Description:

Instructional Technology Responsibilities (75%)

  • The Instructional Technology Support Engineer is the first point of contact for all instructional technology and media support and installations, training a team of support technicians on current equipment to support over 150+ classrooms, private labs, conference, and team rooms.

  • This role assists instructors, students, and staff with training using technology for presentations in classes and special events.

  • Responsible for maintaining instructional technology documentation and training materials.

  • Ensure faculty and staff understand technology by providing comprehensive training and support.

  • Stay current of top instructional technologies and advise on innovative tools to help users collaborate with students, staff, and faculty.

  • Work closely with third-party vendors to ensure all technology is current and functioning properly.

  • Support the design and layout of instructional spaces at all campus locations.

  • Maintain comprehensive understanding of technology, instructional, and digital accessibility requirements.

Technical Support Responsibilities (25%)

  • Provide technical support for Windows and Mac OS to faculty, staff, and students experiencing computer hardware, software, and network issues.

  • Diagnose and resole hardware issues with computers, laptops, printers, and classroom/event and team meeting rooms.

  • Perform imaging and installation of new and refreshed computers for faculty, staff, and general use systems.

  • Perform regular maintenance tasks for instructional technology, including cleaning, software updates, and firmware updates.

  • Offer Tier 1 support for all instructional issues during and Tier 2 support for Help Desk issues.

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of computer equipment, software applications, and peripherals.

  • Assist in data backup and recovery, hardware upgrades, new computer installations, and software installs and upgrades.

  • Handle procurement processes by identifying needs for new equipment and suggesting suitable options.

  • Provide phone support when needed and perform remote work with manager approval.

Experience:

3- 5 years’ experience supporting computer, audiovisual, multimedia, and instructional systems.

Education:

BA/BS in a technical field or equivalent experience.

Knowledge and Skills Needed:

Instructional Technology: Proficiency in various instructional and media technology equipment, including projectors, sound systems, microphones, cameras, and video conferencing systems.

Documentation: Understanding of sound engineering principles to ensure high-quality audio during events and classes.

Software Proficiency: Familiarity with instructional software and control systems such as Crestron, Extron, and Zoom. Proficiency in Windows and macOS. Networking and IT Skills

Basic Networking: Understanding of networking concepts, including IP addressing, subnetting, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

IT Support: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to instructional equipment and integration with other technologies.

Systematic Approach: Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues systematically.

Critical Thinking: Quick thinking and the ability to make decisions under pressure, especially during live events. Good communication and interpersonal kills

Strong customer service orientation to effectively support faculty, staff, and students; ability to work with a diverse group of users with varying levels of technical expertise.

Capability to train users to operate instructional equipment and software.

Organizational Skills, Project Coordination: Ability to manage multiple projects, such as testing media systems for business meetings, classrooms, and conferences.

Detail Orientation: Attention to detail to ensure all equipment is set up correctly and functioning properly.

Adaptability: Willingness to learn innovative technologies and adapt to changing technological landscapes.

Flexibility: Availability to work during non-standard hours, including nights and weekends, to support events and classes as needed.

Preventive Maintenance: Regularly perform maintenance tasks to ensure AV equipment is in good working condition.

Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively within a team, including collaboration with ITS, Media Center, faculty, and third-party vendors.
