Primal Pet Group International Export & Regulatory Affairs Manager in Fairfield, California

Overview

We are seeking an International Export and Regulatory Affairs Manager to join Primal and own product compliance, food safety and international regulatory for our business both in North America and Internationally. This leader will be responsible for managing the end-to-end process of exporting pet food products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Point of contact to provide regulatory and labeling compliance expertise for developing new markets and distributors in North America and Internationally.

  • Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of current regulations, changes to international trade regulations that impact pet food export and advise on necessary adjustments to export processes in response to regulatory changes.

  • Must maintain accurate export records of all export transactions and regulatory filings.

  • Develops and maintains documentation of regulatory processes for the following activities:

  • Product formula & ingredients compliance overview.

  • Articulate labeling requirements to meet compliance needs, develop and maintain accurate pet food labeling information, and approve labels/stickers of finished goods depending on sales strategy.

  • Provide technical guidance, product testing, and documentation to distributors for product registrations.

  • Support claims and certifications validation/substantiation by coordinating with R&D and Legal.

  • Align with product quality managers for shelf life, transport, and storage conditions as per regional climatic conditions.

  • Timely communication of formula changes and impact on product and labels to distributors and act to ensure compliance.

  • Will build process and automation in the following areas where it does not yet exist:

  • Prepare new country packets

  • Prepare documents for auditor and plant inspections

  • Complete or approve health certificates

  • Build process for ERP/QA/Inventory to control export ready product according to sales demand (i.e.: additional pathogen tested product for China, Annual COAs for Korea, proof of heat or Taiwan)

  • Cost analysis of international export requirements (i.e.: additional testing needs)

  • Liaison with consultants and country experts to address emerging regulatory issues pertaining to pet food standards & labeling and ensure compliance with current and evolving regulations.

  • Maintain a relationship with PFI and GAPFA.

  • Provide input and make informed decisions to balance regulatory risk with business and operational needs.

  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities

  • Develop guardrails for other departments to ensure that international regulatory compliance is met and maintained

  • Partner cross-functionally with Marketing, Supply Chain, Brand Management, Legal, and Sales. Provide regulatory leadership, guidance and influence compliance related matters across all functions.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, Animal Science, Food Engineering, International Trade, Regulatory Affairs, or other related education

  • 5+ years of experience in regulatory compliance for international trade that includes the below experience

  • APHIS packet creation

  • iReg Knowledgeable – research and updates

  • USDA and APHIS Audit Preparation

  • Certificate of Free Sale

  • Export Document Registrations

  • Health Certificates

  • COO Document Creation

  • Free Trade Agreement documentation

  • Strongly preferred : PCQI and HACCP certified; CUSMA, FEDIEF, and MARA experience

  • Experience working with product commercialization and pet food regulations

  • Experience with Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, and food safety for pet food products

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability

  • Strong project management skills

  • Highly motivated, self-sufficient and detail oriented

  • Able to work well under deadlines and multitask against multiple competing priorities

  • Ability to work independently across functions and locations, form partnerships, and add value.

    Additional Considerations

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% to other Primal locations and other necessary locations identified for the position and business

Salary Range: $95,000-140,000 (salary offered will vary based on experience level, qualifications, location and other qualifying factors not limited to these mentioned. )
