Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Community Development (CD) team in the Fairfax, VA office is in growth mode. Our diverse portfolio of local government, federal and private sector work is increasing steadily, and we seek to grow our team in a commensurate fashion by hiring an ambitious site/civil engineer who has strong technical skills and can support our current team of professionals in Fairfax, VA.

The CD Group’s portfolio includes a variety of land development, transportation, and utility design projects. Many of the projects are led out of the Fairfax Office or other offices in the region. The CD group also supports other Stantec divisions such as Buildings, Energy, Water, and Environmental Services.

Your Key Responsibilities

The specific scope of work for this position is to provide technical support to a high performing engineering team by assisting with the production of high-quality civil engineering design plans in a timely manner for our clients.

Candidate should be familiar with the preparation of site plans, grading plans, utility plan and profiles, stormwater management plans, erosion & sediment control plans, and other site/civil engineering design plans. Initially, the role will be in the office on a full-time basis, until it is determined that you can work independently and efficiently in a remote setting environment.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Proficiency with Civil3D.

  • Familiarity with design of roads, drainage, grading, water systems, sanitary sewer systems, and/or other infrastructure.

  • Knowledge of stormwater management / BMP design and permitting in Virginia and/or Maryland is preferred.

  • Strong oral, written and graphic communication skills.

  • The ability to work and complete tasks in a relatively independent fashion.

  • The ability to work collaboratively with teams of professionals.

  • Familiarity with and/or the willingness to learn how to use various software tools such as hydrologic/hydraulic design software (FlowMaster/CulvertMaster, PondPack, HydroCAD), Autoturn, Microsoft Office, MS Teams, and other standard software programs for civil engineering applications.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

  • 2-5 years of professional experience in the field of Civil Engineering/Land Development is required.

  • Engineer in Training (EIT).

  • P.E. not required, but it is preferred for candidate to be on a track to obtain P.E. license in the future.

Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work.
