The Maternal Child Health (MCH) Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Public Health Nurse (PHN) III is a working supervisor position assigned to the NFP program and has primary responsibility for routine operations of the program and supervises support staff. The NFP PHN III provides comprehensive public health nursing services to diverse maternal child high risk populations, adhering to the policies and standards of the home visiting program model. The position coordinates education, training and onboarding of new program staff to support workforce development and evaluates program data in collaboration with the MCH/NFP PHN IV and administrator to enhance program delivery and outcomes.

  • This position includes a signing bonus for fully qualified new county employees in the amount of $10,000.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in Nursing; Plus, three years of post-licensure experience as a nurse in an equivalent health care setting whose focus was primarily prevention services and community education, including two years in a public health/community health setting; Plus at least one year experience in a public health/community health specialty area or supervisory responsibilities.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

Possession of current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Valid motor vehicle driver's license.

AED-Required within 60 days.

CPR-Required within 60 days

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three or more years of maternal child health experience in a clinic/hospital/home visiting settings, and highly preferred to have experience with home visiting in the NFP program.

  • Excellent communication skills, experience working with ethnically diverse populations and working on interdisciplinary teams.

  • Ability to build, maintain and promote effective community partnerships (e.g. health care providers, community-based services).

  • Knowledge and experience with chronic disease care-coordination, case management and/or health coaching.

  • Excels in teamwork and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Use of Motivational Interviewing techniques in previous work.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a sanction screening, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. Tuberculosis test.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
