Goodwill of the Southern Alleghenies ReSTARt Mentor - Bedford in Everett, Pennsylvania
Job Purpose:
ReSTARt Mentors will work one-on-one with program participants with the goals of building trust, providing motivation, and offering guidance on decision-making, job searching and networking. Additionally, mentors will work with participants to learn crucial life skills that will help them become self-sufficient, responsible, and productive members of the community.
Hourly Rate: $20 *Hours: * Up to 5 hours per week
Qualifications:
This position is a professional staff position and requires a person capable of conforming to the high standards of behavior expected of all staff. The person must follow company policies, and safety procedures as well as ensure that customers/clients under his/her supervision follow the same.
Experience: Experience in providing services to disadvantaged populations with barriers to employment. Experience with youth or young adults is helpful.
Computer proficiency: Basic computer literacy including Microsoft, and Google Programs.
*Clearances: *Act 151 Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania Criminal History Check, and Department of Human Services - FBI Fingerprints. A conviction or guilty plea does not automatically disqualify an applicant from employment. Each case will be evaluated individually, taking into account the nature of the offense, the time elapsed since it occurred, and the specific requirements of the position. Other: Must have an operating telephone, so that he/she may be contacted quickly by Goodwill when necessary.
Skills, Abilities, Duties, and Responsibilities:
- Knowledge of current best practices in the delivery of re-entry services, and acceptance of Goodwill's Philosophy Concerning People Served
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret human behavior, and basic knowledge of effective behavior management techniques
- Sound professional judgment, adequate to formulate realistic re-entry lesson plans, and counseling participants regarding work-related issues as a part of the participant's collaborative care team
- Connects program participants to community resources and assists them in building natural supports
- Meet with program participants on a regularly occurring basis as agreed upon by the mentor and mentee
- Provides the mentee with support and guidance in the areas of employment, education and life skills
- Attend quarterly mentoring events scheduled by Goodwill
