GE Aerospace Lead Engineer - Mechanical Component in Evendale, Ohio
Job Description Summary
This role is within the Commercial Shroud & Combustor Liner Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) Mechanical Design team in GE Aerospace’s Engineering Division. The team is responsible for the design and development of CMC components within the High-Pressure-Turbine (HPT) and Combustor Module of the GE9X and LEAP Commercial Turbofan engines.
As the Lead Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting and leading projects focused on durability maturation, fleet support, producibility, cost, and delivery for the GE9X CMC Combustors. You will need to understand impact of part manufacturing processes and defects on the impact on the program design requirements and possible impact to the fleet. You may also look into improving component producibility through design and manufacturing changes, as well as standardizing material for reviewing parts. You will be responsible as an individual contributor to drive for design and manufacturing changes to meet program requirements, collaborating with materials engineering, manufacturing, and analysis teams. You will need to implement lessons learned from other programs and new fleet findings into the next iteration of the component design.
Your previous experiences will be fundamental in iterating on existing processes and designs. In this position, you will have some level of autonomy, working directly with your team lead. You will be required to take ownership of the quality of your work and contribute input into setting your priorities. While executing tasks, you will need to assess your capabilities and seek guidance from your supervisor and technical mentors when necessary.

Roles and Responsibilities
Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical for all products
Continue to develop in-depth knowledge of hot section design, CMC design, and module integration. Build understanding as to how work of own team contributes to our commercial programs, future programs, and the CMC IPT. Foster awareness of market trends, competition, and how products are differentiated.
Use some level of judgment and show ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address design and manufacturing challenges. Use on-the-job training and prior experience to solve tasks. Have access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
Lead small teams through completion of deliverables. Communicate schedule pressures and delegate tasks appropriately to cross functional teams. Collaborate with quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, materials engineering, and the systems engineering teams to address challenges and execute on solutions.
Generate substantiations for component defects, non-conformances, and design changes to address cost. Use fleet learnings, component test history, and comparative analysis to resolve corrective action approach. Determine if change-in-designs are a suitable path for corrective action and communicate impact to the business by implementing these changes.
Basic Qualifications
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Materials Engineering from an accredited university
Minimum of 4+ years prior relevant engineering experience.
2+ years working in Combustor or Ceramic Matrix Composites Component design.
Preferred Qualifications
Effective interpersonal and influencing skills
Strong oral communication and technical documentation skills
Proven ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to be mentored while resolving complex problems
Familiarity with hardware ownership, jet engines, hot section design, and/or turbine design.
Proficiency in CAD software (Unigraphics NX), GD&T, and assembly stack-ups
Prior involvement working RCCAs/TOPS8Ds
Composite design and/or manufacturing experience
Non-conformance review, or Material Review Board (MRB) experience
