As a member of the Product Development team, the Design Engineer will have responsibility for all technical aspects of closure product design from concept ideation through commercialization. This position will work closely with Customers, Sales, Product Development Engineers, Project Managers, R&D, Manufacturing and Commercial Development to drive next generation product designs that will ultimately lead to profitability and growth.
Responsibilities
Plan, organize and direct custom and proprietary designs from the initial contact with the customer through the final production design
Work with the customer and Product Development Manager to clearly identify design goals and develop an end product that satisfies the defined objectives
Design considerations must include best in class features, whether existing Berry or competitive solutions (subject to IP restrictions)
Work closely with Product Development Engineering, Marketing and Sales on new product development
Create documentation necessary to convey design solutions (internal & external)
Coordinate and manage all aspects of design
Responsible for adherence to Berry Management of Change, ISO, industry, and/or regulatory procedures
Responsible for facilitating technical analysis and design reviews on all designs that are moving to the prototype and production phases
Performance Measurements:
Accuracy of designs
Deadline management
Adherence to Berry MOC, ISO, EPDM, etc...
Intellectual Property Submissions
Continuous improvement & expansion of Subject Matter Expertise
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Plastics Engineering or related fields.
Experience with 3D computer modeling, preferably SolidWorks and/or Pro/Engineer
Experience with Finite Element Analysis and MoldFlow a plus
Knowledge of injection molding processes, processing, and tooling required
Ability to travel as needed (5-20%)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Self-motivated individual
Ability to prioritize, multi-task, be a proactive thinker, and be results-oriented
Possess a strong aesthetic sense with the ability to bring meaningful form to concepts (creativity)
Strong team player with an exceptional positive “can do” attitude
Strong skills in core design competencies: stack-up analysis, sketching, concept ideation, presenting, problem-solving
