Position Summary

The Data Engineer role will be focused specifically on Data Warehousing, Data Management, BI, and Data Analytics projects within the Global Marketing team. The Data Engineer will take the lead in creating Data Pipelines and Infrastructure, proposing and implementing scalable data reporting as well as evaluating, producing, and refining dashboards and reports. As a Data Engineer, you’ll identify gaps in our data sources and develop solutions to bridge them in order to provide stronger customer visibility for enhanced marketing and sales targeting efforts. You’re not afraid of leveraging technology to solve data problems. You’ll make data converts out of non-believers, digging into complex data and turning them into actionable insights for marketers, sales professionals, and executives.

Major Responsibilities

  • Drive our Marketing Data Platform program to enable strong customer profiling and visibility (such as install base, volume etc.) to improve our targeting efforts.

  • As an expert in dimensional modeling and schema design, you’re able to expertly write SQL in various flavors to build harmonized data models that our business users can plug into.

  • With a meticulous eye for detail, you’re not just on the lookout for data problems and defects, but also thinking of processes and approaches to test and optimize data quality.

  • You’ve got strong business and data requirements analysis skills, allowing you to evaluate problems, interact with stakeholders, design solutions, weigh the pros & cons, and then execute.

  • You will be integrating data from different sources with your experience in data integration and ETL.

  • You will be managing and designing the reporting environment, including data sources, security, and metadata.

  • You’ll also support the data warehouse in identifying and revising reporting requirements and providing technical expertise in data storage structures, data mining, and data cleansing.

  • You’ll own critical data pipelines and constantly improve pipeline efficiency and data quality

  • Conduct research into new data warehouse applications and determine viability for adoption

  • Create dashboards and reports to regularly communicate business results

Skills

  • Skilled in SQL and RDBMS (3+ years) including complex joins, unions, intersects, subqueries, string manipulation, and window functions.

  • Strong background in stored procedures/functions with an advanced database system – preferably Postgres.

  • Expert in Python programming especially in database manipulation, ETL & large data sets

  • Expertise in data warehouse & data mart design – building star/snowflake schemas, constructing multi-dimensional/OLAP cubes, performing MDX queries, and running analytical functions (i.e. rollups, drill downs, slicing/dicing, etc.)

  • Solid project management skills and comfortable working in both Scrum and Kanban approaches.

  • Power BI development expertise. Having at least 1-2 years of experience in DAX/Power Pivot and Power Query/M would be a big benefit. An interest in data visualization is even better.

  • Data modeling skills using Python, R, or another similar approach would be a nice addition, as would experience in JSON or other unstructured/semi-structured data.

  • Git and version control expertise.

  • Previous experience as a data engineer or in a similar role would be a plus

  • Strong marketing and sales data management (e.g. Pardot Marketing automation or Salesforce CRM) or Master Data Management skills would be a plus.

  • Experience working with cloud data platforms such as Azure or Google BigQuery,etc is a plus

  • Data engineering certification (e.g IBM Certified Data Engineer) is a plus

  • 3+ years of overall technology experience, that includes at least 2+ years of hands-on data engineering, and data architecture

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree. Preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field; a Master’s Degree is a plus

Experience

  • Expertise in data warehouse & data mart design –building star/snowflake schemas, constructing multi-dimensional/OLAP cubes, performing MDX queries, and running analytical functions (i.e. rollups, drilldowns, slicing/dicing, etc.)

  • Experience in data integration and ETL. Ability to use scripting languages (e.g. Python) and middleware (e.g. Informatica) to integrate data from different sources and get it ready for use by downstream processes.

  • A strong sense of data architecture decision process thinking in order to provide the best possible foundation for our analysts.

  • Database DevOps experience building CI/CD pipelines ( with tools such as Liquibase or DBmaestro).

  • Experience working with Agile tools such as JIRA, Confluence

  • Experience with Cloud data platforms such as Azure or Google BigQuery, etc.
