SUMMARY:Responsible for full technical management responsibilities for multiple 7000 TEU container ships.Work will be in the port of Long Beach. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Includes responsibility for technical, operational and performance of the vessel from an engineering perspective. Includes execution of the planned maintenance program, purchasing and inspections/audits and repairs of various types of equipment and systems. The ability to independently interact with vendors, inspectors, customers, port state control and internal company resources is required. This includes normal day-to-day operations, voyage repairs, equipment failures and emergency incident response. Familiarity with 2-stroke slow speed diesel engines is preferred. Ability to provide remote technical support to the vessel(s) is required. Strong understanding of good safety practices and culture is required. The ability to manage the vessel crew including performance expectations and reviews, performance discipline, crew selection and general personnel management. Will be required to perform to various KPIs including budget performance and vessel reliability. EDUCATION:Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering or a related field; 10 years in an engineering related field, including seagoing experience, may be substituted in lieu of the educational requirements. EXPERIENCE:5-8 years relevant experience in marine engineering including sailing or equivalent shoreside experience in the marine industry. * *TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY:Strong understanding of shipboard systems including propulsion, auxiliary machinery, electrical, hydraulic and controls is preferred. Ability to conduct vessel survey/inspections including machinery, structure and tanks. Physically able to climb and access tanks and voids as a part of a vessel survey. Ability to prepare shipyard repair specifications for emergency and regulatory dry dockings. COMPETENCIES:Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with vessel crew, vendors, customers and regulatory representatives. TRAVEL:Up to 25% travel including short notice. Ability to support long duration shipyard repairs periods when needed. OTHER:USCG license and/or Maritime graduate preferred. . No relocation offered. Hybrid work options available. JOB SCOPE:Position impacts multiple business units/segments. WORKING CONDITIONS:Works both inside an office environment and also outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom and be able to climb ladders.
