Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual for the position of EHS Specialist II in Eugene. As an EHS Specialist II, you will have the unique opportunity to make a significant impact in a world-class organization known for its exceptional work in the field of life sciences.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage select EHS programs in a fast-paced, cross-functional, and highly collaborative environment.

  • Serve as a subject matter authority and administrator for assigned programs.

  • Apply Lean tools and principles to continuously improve EHS programs.

  • Engage site functional teams and leadership to prioritize initiatives and resources for achieving EHS objectives.

  • Assist in the management of Workers' Compensation cases, including record management, investigation, and evaluation.

  • Support site emergencies such as spills, evacuations, and medical emergencies.

  • Act as a liaison for employees needing ergonomic evaluations and coordinate improvement recommendations.

  • Support the contractor safety program by acquiring necessary insurance, training, and permit information.

  • Respond to departmental inquiries and concerns in a timely manner, providing quality resolution.

  • Promote and sustain a safety-first culture through involvement, innovation, and engagement.

  • Support compliance with Thermo Fisher Scientific's global EHS management system and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop, review, and refine EHS programs and processes to meet changing business needs.

  • Provide technical expertise to address site-related hazards.

  • Partner with the site training management team to develop and deliver training content for EHS programs.

  • Provide EHS guidance to promote accurate execution and closure of SHED entries.

  • Coordinate with outside vendors for site services as required.

  • Work collaboratively with Thermo Fisher Scientific Global EHS and regulatory agencies on EHS matters.

Requirements:

  • Equivalent experience in life sciences or engineering or three years of directly relevant industry expertise is acceptable, in addition to a Bachelor's degree.

  • Certified in OSHA Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry or willingness to gain certification.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively connect with employees, people leaders, and medical professionals.

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology related to occupational injuries and diseases.

  • Strong understanding of workers' compensation laws, ordinances, regulations, and procedures.

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and various computer applications.
