UPMC Sr. Patient Care Technician, 7S Oncology in Erie, Pennsylvania

UPMC Hamot is hiring a Part-Time Senior Patient Care Technician to join the team on 7 South Oncology!

Responsibilities:

  • Supports and suggests departmental changes. Takes responsibility for assignments and views problems as challenges.

  • Demonstrates awareness of behavior's impact on department efficiency. Supports department projects and quality initiatives.

  • Receives feedback constructively and identifies learning needs. Communicates learning needs and takes action to improve skills.

  • Requests assistance for planning and prioritizing activities. Participates in self-review, projects, and committees.

  • Adheres strictly to patient care and hospital policies and procedures. Complies with safety procedures, including standard precautions.

  • Documents in medical records according to procedures. Performs assigned tasks promptly and efficiently.

  • Transports cardiac-monitored patients within the hospital. May insert Foley catheters, perform straight catheterization, and IV procedures.

  • Completes clerical functions as needed.

  • Provides patient care, including assisting with daily living activities and procedures. Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.

  • Provides feedback on patient care and reports status changes. Provides patient and family instruction under RN direction.

  • Applies, monitors, and removes patient restraints as needed. Reports equipment malfunctions and communicates effectively with other departments.

  • Contributes to unit activities like responding to calls and transporting patients.

  • Communicates clearly with all healthcare team members. Understands cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in health professions.

  • Supports safety in the workplace for both patients and staff. Maintains professional, respectful relationships and accountability.

  • Routinely performs core nursing assistant responsibilities, including ADLs, point-of-care testing, and specimen collection.

  • Performs advanced skills like basic arrhythmia, complex wound care, 12-lead EKGs, and NG tube management as needed.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must have either: a) 2 years of general healthcare experience and meet Patient Care Technician title requirements b) 1 year of experience and enrollment in a PT/OT/PA program with at least one clinical rotation completed c) 1 year of experience and completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.

  • Annual completion of a professional contribution, to be determined after hire.

  • Successful completion of Patient Care Technician Senior class. Successful completion of basic information system training.

  • Microcomputer experience preferred. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Nursing student with at least one clinical rotation completed preferred.

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic, or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program, preferred.

  • Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course and annual competency required.

  • May be in rooms where medications are stored or transport medications when transporting patients, limited to departmental transfers.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Act 34

  • ACLS preferred
