Description

JOB SUMMARY : Responsible for and has the authority to make decisions on risk management issues that directly impact the strategic direction of the health system. Sets the strategic risk management vision and is charged with delivering that strategy to the health system using exceptional leadership skills, network of internal and external alliances and highly developed business skills. Possesses an intimate knowledge of internal processes and the organization's industry and provides solutions for non-insurance related business risk issues. Recognized risk leader, who is a dynamic, proactive and decisive person. Adapts well to and initiates change in the health system. Seeks ways to optimize risks in the organization as a competitive business advantage. This person typically reports to the LECOM Health Risk Retention Group Board of Directors and Office of General Counsel.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes and preserves the mission of LECOM Health;

  • Lead the identification, communication, measurement, and management of company-wide risk;

  • Manages insurance procurement, develops and implements risk management and compliance policies/procedures, manages claims, and coordinates claims with counsel;

  • Manages relationships with third party service providers including brokers, underwriters, and other third-party administrators;

  • Evaluates and provides recommendations regarding selection of policies, including but not limited to Property, Casualty, General Liability, Workers Compensation, Auto, Directors and Officers, Excess, Cyber-Risk policies and the health systems Risk Retention Group and Captive programs;

  • Coordinates and submits, as necessary, the gathering of insurance policy renewal data;

  • Partners with all departments regarding incident reports and claims or losses;

  • Investigates, resolves, and responds to claims under the direction of the General Counsel;

  • Provides timely notification of claims to insurance carriers;

  • Develops and communicates plans to address loss events;

  • Analyzes loss trends; Develops and leads strategies to mitigate risks and reduce losses;

  • Works with the company’s insurance brokers to respond to requests for certificates of insurance and claims history document;

  • Partners with key stakeholders to develop and implement standards, processes, programs, and best practices related to risk management;

  • Identifies potential risk exposures, recommends solutions, implements approved programs, promotes loss prevention, and updates and monitors compliance;

  • Manages the workers’ compensation and incident reporting program and processes, assesses, and reports claims to carriers as appropriate;

  • Utilizes insurance carrier/third party websites/technology to accomplish risk management objectives;

  • Attends and helps facilitate system safety meetings;

  • Establishes Enterprise Risk Management objectives; coordinates and oversees clinical risk management with applicable staff;

  • Manage the health systems Mcare physician list in accordance with applicable state law;

  • Attends health system board meetings to report on risk management objectives and results;

  • Participate in scholarly activity so to enrich and broaden the student learning experience;

  • Commit to being a representative of LECOM by being actively involved in the community, including, but not limited to, serving on Boards, participating in community fundraisers and overall outreach; and

  • Accept other responsibilities and projects as assigned by the President/CEO for the Health System’s needs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Maintain confidentiality (i.e. FERPA, HIPAA …etc.) of work-related information and materials;

  • Possess knowledge with and adhere to OSHA requirements, such as Bloodborne Pathogens/Universal Precautions; also NFPA Life Safey code.

  • Ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others, consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect and EEO rules and regulations;

  • Ability to report to work as scheduled, ready to devote full attention and energy to the important work of LECOM;

  • Ability to accept work directives from managers and supervisors in a respectful and cooperative manner; and

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :Education and experience equivalent to: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Legal, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management or related field required. Law degree or Master’s degree in Risk Management preferred. 7-10 years of insurance and/or risk management experience required.
