This is an hourly union represented position. Local UE 506

Starting wage: $21.86

Position Summary :

Paint Technician is responsible for painting, grinding, sanding, buffing and masking of various locomotive components and parts throughout our facility. This technician will also set up and control various plating equipment and solutions on a variety of control parts. This position is essential for preparing our product for final paint.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Work from Manufacturing Process Plans (MPP’s), drawings and/or sketches and verbal information to determine exact areas of product to be primed and painted, type and color of paint and/or other material to apply.

  • Checks to ensure that areas to be painted are cleaned, masked and ready for finish. Mixes paint per specifications and thins to obtain proper viscosity. Sets up, adjusts, and operates paint spraying equipment and drying ovens. Performs touchup work on the above when required.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 4+ years of automotive or industrial paint application experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of air spray process

  • Demonstrated knowledge of 2-component paint systems

  • Must be able to perform paint scheme layouts from complex blue prints

  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand engineering drawings/specifications and manufacturing processes

  • Competency in conventional air and high voltage low pressure spray technics

  • Must be willing and able to work any shift

Preferred:

  • Automotive or Commercial paint experience

  • Experience in electrostatic spray paint techniques

  • ASE certification

  • Performance Alliance certification

  • 4+ years experience in manufacturing

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

  • Energetic and positive attitude to excel in skills and knowledge

Functional Requirements:

Unusual fatigue factors including prolonged standing and walking, walking on slippery or uneven surfaces, moderate to heavy lifting, repeated straight pulling and pushing, repeated bending and reaching above head, climbing, kneeling, able to distinguish basic colors, exposure to intermittent noise (90 DBA), exposure to paint, vapors, dust and others like fiberglass, operate a crane and industrial truck.
