Responsibilities:

  • Verify and update necessary information and records in both the medical record and computerized scheduling system.

  • Schedule, coordinate, and reschedule patient appointments, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

  • Relay messages and information between patients, staff, and providers effectively.

  • Greet and register patients courteously, providing any necessary instructions and directions.

  • Inform relevant departments or individuals of patient arrivals and complete check-in and check-out procedures.

  • Maintain a clean and orderly waiting area, including managing the beverage station and reading materials.

  • Prepare patient charts for upcoming appointments to ensure smooth workflow.

  • Answer phones, screen calls, take messages, and provide information as needed.

  • Keep physician schedules updated, ensuring patients are correctly scheduled and appointments are confirmed.

  • Complete and process necessary paperwork, including encounter forms and referrals, and use the computer system for billing purposes.

  • Address questions related to patient appointments and testing.

  • Adhere to all UPMC Health System policies and procedures, maintaining strict confidentiality of medical records and data.

  • Use automated financial management system modules for scheduling, verifying information, entering charges, and managing co-payments.

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • 1 year work experience, preferably in a medical office setting

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Word processing and computer experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34
