Who will you be working with?

The Wabtec Mining team delivers world class electric drive propulsion systems for heavy haul mining trucks with payloads up to 400T. These systems are introducing new technology to help mines meet their sustainability goals.

How will you make a difference?

In this role, the Lead Electrical Systems Engineer will work with the Engineering team to develop, implement, & validate control systems for electric drive mining vehicles. You’ll have the opportunity to interact directly with customers and cross functional teams during product definition and project execution.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or other related discipline with a preference for advanced degrees.

  • A minimum of 3 years Engineering experience

  • Experience with control electrical systems design, analysis, & validation, power supplies, grounding, instrumentation, and communications

  • Schematic interpretation and creation

  • Using test instrumentation ranging from oscilloscopes to data acquisition systems.

  • Familiarity with soldering, part assembly, and PCBAs.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Design and validate the electrical control system for truck propulsion systems. This work will be done as part of new system designs, upgrades, and counter measures to address factory / field issues.

  • The system consists of truck batteries and alternators, control hardware, sensors, power supplies, power electronics, communications networks, control power and grounding networks.

  • The system needs to operate through vehicle electrical transient conditions, meet truck EMC compliance targets, and operate in difficult mining environments with wide thermal ranges, high altitudes, significant vibration, dust, humidity, and moisture.

  • Document system requirements and flow requirements to subsystem, & component development teams.

  • Analyze systems and evaluate detailed designs for technical merit & adherence to sound engineering principles. Adhere to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

  • Coordinate sub-system validation and reports for testing performed internally, at 3rd party sites, or on customer site.

  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments.

  • Resolve control related field issues as assigned.

  • Travel periodically for durations of 2 to 3 weeks to conduct testing or investigate issues.

What about the physical demands of the job?

Candidates will be required to work in a full test lab and support testing in the field, the below physical capabilities are essential:

  • Climb multistory access stairs and/or ladders on large mining trucks to perform validation testing.

  • Work with hand-coded control models and interpret models and simulations.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
