UPMC Clinician - 7 South Oncology in Erie, Pennsylvania

UPMC Hamot, a Magnet designated facility located in Erie, PA is hiring a Clinician to join 7 South Oncology!

Unit: 7-South is a close-knit team of highly experienced nurses, many with over 20 years of service. Our unit feels like a family, fostering a supportive environment with strong teamwork and a commitment to professional growth through the career ladder. Specializing in oncology, we provide chemotherapy to cancer patients as needed, offering opportunities for chemotherapy certification and foundational oncology training.

$20,000 sign-on bonus available for nurses with over one year of experience!

Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience.

Overview: The Clinician is a nurse leader responsible for fostering a culture of excellence in patient care and serving as a role model for professional nursing practice. Under the direction of the Unit Director or department manager, the Clinician oversees employee evaluations, staff hiring, and daily performance management. The role includes providing education, training, and clinical expertise to staff, coordinating clinical activities, and, if needed, delivering direct nursing care.

Responsibilities:

  • Builds productive working relationships internally and externally through mentoring, positive communication, and team building.

  • Coaches' colleagues on cultural diversity and addresses workplace issues like horizontal violence and impairment.

  • Demonstrates accountability for safe work hours, time management, and healthy lifestyles.

  • Utilizes performance improvement tools to enhance care quality and work environment, sharing improvements across units.

  • Actively mentors and educates others, serving as a preceptor and fostering continuous learning.

  • Integrates organizational and system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.

  • Shares new knowledge through presentations, posters, and publications.

  • Applies nursing knowledge within the framework of Relationship-Based Care, addressing clinical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking and effective communication to support patient care and coordination among providers.

  • Leads clinical nursing practice improvements and supports staff through change processes.

  • Participates in shared leadership and assumes formal roles in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, or onboarding.

  • Assists with or completes staff performance evaluations as needed.

  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience

  • Master’s degree preferred. BS/BSN required; if BS degree is not in nursing, a master’s or higher degree in Nursing is required

  • Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care for patients of all ages, understanding principles of growth and development over the lifespan.

  • Ability to assess patient data, interpret information, and address age-specific needs as per department policy and procedures.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, and patients/families.

  • Ability to work effectively in a complex environment, managing multiple priorities and specialized equipment.

  • Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Critical thinking skills required for leading others in applying the nursing process.

  • Requires mobility, visual manual dexterity, and physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within one year of hire or transfer.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) within 6 months of hire or transfer.

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Act 34

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
