Lake Erie College Of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) Clinical Faculty (full time) - School of Podiatric Medicine in ERIE, Pennsylvania

JOB SUMMARY: Clinical Faculty for the School of Podiatric Medicine are well versed and experienced in all phases of podiatric medical care and have achieved a specific level of expertise within the profession of podiatry. Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include teaching in the School of Podiatric Medicine with focused efforts in the podiatric clinical skills courses and offering lecture presentations to first and second year podiatric medical students.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following are a list of Academic Exercises that may be required as a member of the Clinical Faculty from time to time:

  • Serve as an instructor and trainer in the Podiatry curriculum;
  • Assist in Simulation Lab supervision;
  • Assist in the History and Physical courses;
  • Interview prospective student candidates for the School of Podiatric Medicine (SPM);
  • Serve on committees as assigned and serve as advisor to assigned students and at least one club;
  • Participate in research and scholarly activity;
  • Preparation of educational tools (A/V presentations, demonstration models, lectures, syllabi, lesson plans...etc.);
  • Preparation of laboratory demonstrations, lectures, small group discussions, the selection of suggested and required reading from various sources, and coordinating these educational tools with other faculty members;
  • Prepare evaluation tools that will adequately assess student competence in podiatric core competencies and help to identify students in need of remediation and further help in obtaining competence in various areas;
  • Attend "Team" meetings approved by SPM that require advancement of your profession;
  • Faculty member will contribute and be responsible for overall student success, including, but not limited to, advising and student outcomes;
  • Faculty member will contribute directly to the Mission of LECOM embodying the essence of Podiatric Medicine.
  • Faculty member will participate in scholarly activity so to enrich and broaden the student learning experience;
  • Faculty member will commit to being a representative of LECOM by being actively involved in the community, including, but not limited to, assisting with Institutional fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction, serving on Boards, participating in community fundraisers and overall outreach;
  • Must be available for work during the hours assigned, for student instruction and clinic development;
  • Must be able to take direction and receive assignments from the Assistant/Associate Dean of Preclinical Education; and
  • Accept other duties assigned/needed for the Institution's needs.

Job Requirements:

*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: *Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate,  with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Must adhere to the LECOM code of ethics;
  • Knowledge of general medical coding and related information in the field;
  • Compliance with State and Federal Regulations and Safety Protocols, at the clinic level;
  • Knowledge of student and patient's privacy (i.e. FERPA, HIPAA...etc.);
  • Follow proper OSHA and safety guidelines; Protective equipment (office, facility...etc.);
  • Strong communications skills are essential as well as computer literacy (MS Office Suite [i.e. Word, PowerPoin and Excel]) and accurate data entry skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Must be accurate and attentive to detail;
  • Must be trained and certified on the Institutional Data System;
  • Maintaining an established work schedule;
  • Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills, including tact and diplomacy;
  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills, including attention to detail and follow- through;
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands;
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work related information and materials;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships;
  • Be able to be flexible to accept other duties needed/assigned for the clinic needs;
  • The ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others, consistent with a workplace of dignity and respect and EEO rules and regulations;
  • The ability to report to work as scheduled, ready to devote full attention and energy to the important work of LECOM; and
  • The ability to accept work directives from managers and supervisors in a respectful and cooperative manner.

*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and experience equivalent to: *D.P.M. degree required; must be board certified in an area of study; licensed or eligible for a current license to practice podiatric medicine.  Teaching experience in academia with two to five (2-5) years' or more of clinical practice experience is preferred.
