Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose

The position of Manager, Data Science is responsible for developing a program that supports forecasting and modeling needs for higher level analytics to support and accelerate solution development. In addition, the position is responsible for managing and supporting a small team of data scientists to create analytical methods to improve the SSRM Operations, Financial Insights and Analytics efficiencies.

The Manager of Data Science works closely with executive and clinical leadership to identify areas of opportunity and translate those opportunities into Data Science work products that can be integrated into the overall SSRM Data and Analytics infrastructure.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Directs a small team of Data Scientists to advance organizational directives and SSRM organizational goals.

  2. Works with executive and operational leadership to create statistical solutions to improve delivery of statistical models and forecasting results.

  3. Updates executive and department leadership on progress of data science projects.

  4. Identifies statistically sound approaches to using data science technologies to solve a variety of complex problems.

  5. Collaborates with SSRM Data Director to develop data curation, transformation, storage, and retrieval strategies to support Data Science operations.

  6. Evaluates and provides recommendations on standard and novel computer science technologies to advance solutions.

  7. Supports professional growth of Data Scientists and support staff through mentorship and knowledge transfer.

  8. Directs the implementation of advanced analytic techniques to solve complex problems, including Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Deep Learning/Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies.

  9. Conducts regular performance reviews of data science team members.

  10. Fosters communications with various individuals throughout the organization to support Data Science efforts.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Academic: Master’s Degree or PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Biomedical Informatics, Data Science, or related field.

Experience:

3+ years’ experience in supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques.

3+ years’ leadership experience

5 years’ experience in healthcare analytics, preferable in care provider domain.

Skilled at various methods of communicating project status or architecture for dissemination to technical and non-technical staff.

Experience in Big Data/Google Cloud analytic environments.

Experience in data management technologies, including relational, file system, document and graph-based storage paradigms.

Experience with MS Office/Google products, specifically Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Slides, and Sheets

Experience developing and managing project progress and quantifying using visual timelines.

Experience with a variety of statistical programming languages, such as R, Python, SAS, SPSS.

Experience with a variety of statistical visualization software, such as Tableau, PowerBI, SAS VisualAnalytics, Looker

Experience evaluating and applying emerging computer science technologies.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of the use of descriptive, predictive and prescriptive statistical methods in healthcare.

  2. Comprehensive knowledge of advanced statistical learning techniques, including machine and deep learning, NLP, and AI.

  3. Technical mastery in multiple statistical programming languages: Python, R, Matlab, SAS, SPSS, Stata.

  4. Technical mastery of statistical visualization software packages: Tableau, PowerBI, SAS VisualAnalytics, Qlik.

  5. Ability to manage a team of data science and support staff to support the demands of CommonSpirit Health efforts to improve the delivery of care.

  6. Ability to communicate effectively along all levels of executive and technical management and technical staff.

  7. Comprehensive understanding of data technologies, including Big Data, relational and non-relational data stores.

  8. Ability to maintain adequate staffing of data science team, including recruitment, retention and advancement of data science and support staff.

  9. Strong inter-personal skills and ability to multi-task.

  10. Comprehensive knowledge of NLP processing, storage and retrieval techniques.

  11. Ability to identify potential data science solutions and work with executive and clinical leadership to determine optimal solution paths.

  12. Knowledge of the healthcare solution space and ability to provide viable solutions in the context of scalability and feasibility.

  13. A strong passion for research and advancing the healthcare space by identifying innovative solutions to complex industry problems.

  14. Ability to mentor and provide clear and attainable career growth for data science staff.

Pay Range

$51.66 - $74.91 /hour
