CNA/ Dialysis Tech- Full Time Day Shift Position

I Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse or the LPN Team Leader, provides basic nursing care to patients. Provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients with established policies, procedures and guidelines set forth by federal, state, and local regulations. The dialysis technician must understand the scientific principles of dialysis, the process of the dialysis treatment and how to respond to the physical and emotional needs of patients undergoing dialysis treatments. In addition, this position may perform clerical and patient care duties based upon Board of Nursing guidelines and the direction of the Registered Nurse.

II. Principal Functions and Responsibilities:Assembles and prepares dialysis circuit

  • Test machine functions

  • Obtains and document pre and post-dialysis vitals, weight, and temps

  • Measures and adjusts blood flow rates, and fluid removal rates

  • Monitors equipment, responds to alarms

  • Responds appropriately to dialysis-related emergencies,

  • Discontinues the dialysis and establishes hemostasis

  • Inspects, cleans and dresses access.

  • Discards dialysis supplies and sanitizes equipment

  • Communicates with RN and care team about patients' needs

III. Patient Care Responsibilities

  • Obtains and documents patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, respiration, and pulse.

  • Performs basic nursing procedures including thermal applications, non-sterile soaks, application of simple dressing, perineal care, and urine tests.

  • Provides personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, bedpans, and transportation.

  • Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy.

  • Assists patients who need help with eating their meals.

  • Records intake and output of fluids on all patients designated for such observation.

  • Answers patient call lights.

  • Prints Telemetry strips q4th and notifies charge nurse when posted.

IV. Clinical Duties:

  • Assembles patient’s chart and checks to verify that all permits, authorizations, releases and other required forms are attached. Maintain patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patient’s medical treatment.

  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data.

  • Answers telephone, receives and delivers messages.

  • Admit and discharge patients with appropriate documents.

  • Break down charts and maintain a clean nurses’ station.

  • Assures continuity of care by attending reports from proceeding shift and communicating with the charge nurse regarding any abnormalities in the patient’s condition.

  • Perform chart audits and reminds nurses to complete required charting fields.

  • Enters patient charges as appropriate.

  • Prepares new admit packets/paperwork

V. Additional Duties:

  • Maintain adequate supply levels.

  • Utility room and instruments after procedures in the dirty utility room.

  • Set up room for new admits.

  • Restock warms FHM cart.

  • Strip rooms

  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Improvement Program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.

  • Attends meetings as required.

  • Maintain positive and effective relations with co-workers, other departments, patients, and visitors.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent,

  • Current CNA license in Idaho Required

  • National certification in Dialysis (CCHT) Required

  • Required One year as a Dialysis technician.

  • Required one year as CNA in acute care hospital

  • Preferred 2 years or more experience as dialysis technician.

  • Preferred Education: Post High School vocational training as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant, National certification in Dialysis (CCHT)

  • Physical Requirement: Walking, lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients. Lifts, stooping, reaching, hand-eye coordination, and speaking.

  • Working Conditions: Bloodborne pathogens; Exposure to patient elements in general. Potential exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissues. Contact with patients and their families under sometimes stressful, difficult, and unpredictable circumstances.
