Sage Therapeutics Senior Director, Head of R&D Tech and Informatics in EMAIL: Workday@Sagerx.com, Massachusetts
The goal of the R&D Tech organization is to enable the acceleration and expansion of Sage’s innovation pipeline through the strategic use of leading-edge digital, data, analytics and informatics technologies. To achieve this mission, the Head of R&D Tech will lead an integrated technology and informatics team that will play a lead role in the definition, delivery, implementation, and operational success of these capabilities across the company.
The role will be a direct business partner and strategic thought leader for the Chief Scientific Officer, Chief Research Officer, and Chief Medical Officer. The scope includes all functional areas of Sage research and development including early research, preclinical and translational research, data science, clinical development, quality, and regulatory.
The qualified candidate will be expected to establish close partnerships with colleagues across multiple disciplines to translate business and scientific needs into state-of-the-art informatics and digital solutions. The candidate will be expected to establish a vision for informatics and to champion solutions that facilitate the company's success. This role reports to the CTIO (Chief Technology and Innovation Officer).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Be a trusted partner to the R&D team, developing and driving the R&D Tech and Informatics strategy to achieve strategic and operational goals in a customer-focused manner.
Drive alignment of strategy with R&D, including operations and senior management.
Design and implement best-in-class informatics and technology solutions. Continuously seek and evaluate external trends to drive innovation and deliver business value.
Engage project stakeholders in defining R&D data and informatics ecosystem. Ensure security of scientific data and connectivity to company data sources.
Manage and direct the scope of the Technology & Informatics portfolio, including vendors, consultants, and budgets for R&D Tech projects.
Lead the planning and implementation of key projects programs, including GxP regulatory processes and GxP Computerized Systems Validation life cycle.
Collaborate with the QA organization to develop and execute scalable, risk-based computerized systems validation (CSV) processes and procedures.
Demonstrate leadership and influence skills across all organizational levels and functions.
Create/define R&D Tech & Informatics roadmaps, ensuring ongoing business and Tech alignment. Regularly communicate progress.
Lead the R&D Tech and Informatics organization and develop industry leading talent, skillsets, and capabilities.
Engage as an enterprise leader on the Tech Leadership team.
Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, good conflict management and negotiation skills, ability to analyze complex issues to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs and recommendations. Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action; excellent analytical skills and an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple way and to orchestrate plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks.
BS/BA degree in relevant discipline with at least 15+ years of industry experience in a biotech/pharma group; Masters/PHD a plus.
Thorough understanding of end-to-end Research & Development scientific processes and value chain.
Proven track record in developing and delivering technology strategies to enable acceleration of business objectives and outcomes.
Strong business and scientific acumen and ability to establish relationships and partner across all organizational levels.
Experience outside pharma/biotech vertical (e.g. High Tech) would be considered when combined with demonstrated learning agility.
Experience applying innovative technologies, capabilities, and platforms to drive business transformation (digital, data strategy, advanced analytics, AI/ML, etc).
Experience leading and motivating diverse, cross-functional teams and establishing an agile, product-centric operating model.
Experience leading digital, data, analytics, and/or technology organizations.
Experience working with all levels of management and consulting with key business stakeholders. Demonstrated executive presence and communication skills with an ability to influence for greater outcomes.
Highly motivated, decisive, and results-oriented individual with the flexibility and creativity to excel in a rapidly growing and changing environment.
Big picture thought leader with ability to dive deep; working individually, within multi-disciplinary teams, as well as with external partners and vendors.
Experience with Change Control, incident response and release management.
Previous experience validating both cloud-based and on-premise, GxP solutions for intended use.
