Kittitas County Communications Coordinator in Ellensburg, Washington

Description

The Communications Coordinator provides coordination, guidance, and content generation of external department strategic communications and grant applications. This position works closely with internal staff to ensure that all communications meet the department's brand and content standards, and the language access and health literacy needs of Kittitas County residents. Must maintain courteous and cooperative working relationships with administrative and other County personnel, public agencies, and the general public, and work under the guidance of Local/State/Federal regulations and County policies/procedures.

Examples of Duties

 

  • Tell the story of the Kittitas County Public Health Department (KCPHD) to the community through a variety of methods and media. Build community understanding of broad public health topics and work specific to the mission, vision, and values of KCPHD.
  • Conceptualize, plan, coordinate, create, film, edit, and/ or develop video and still photographic products and other assets and content for a broad variety of media platforms, including but not limited to advertisements, website, social media, infographics, illustrations, posters and flyers, and educational video with minimal supervision.
  • Manage relationship(s) with external graphic design contractors; oversee contracts and deliverables, plan projects when in-house resources are not sufficient.
  • In collaboration with department staff, write, edit, and review materials to appear in publications, reports, periodicals, brochures, speeches, presentations, and audio-visual productions.
  • Engage priority populations in the design, development, or implementation strategies for communication.
  • Work with department leadership and staff to ensure standardization; ensure that appropriate branding, design standards, templates, and communication tools are used consistently throughout the department; ensure that department style guide is updated and accessible for staff use.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain department communications plan and related communications policies and procedures.
  • Manage and maintain all KCPHD social media platforms under the direction of the Deputy Public Health Director.
  • Manage and maintain all KCPHD forms and applications. 
  • Present department documents to the Board of County Commissioners at consent agenda sessions. 
  • Work with department staff to communicate public health data science effectively and clearly to a variety of audiences in ways that the audience can understand and act on as appropriate to protect and promote health.
  • Anticipate communication needs, opportunities, impacts, and expectations for the department and partners on a wide range of public health issues and make recommendations to department leadership as appropriate.
  • Lead KCPHD Community Language Access project; collaborate with regional and statewide local health jurisdictions to assess current activities, community needs, and assist in the development of health literate, culturally responsive, consistent health messaging with accompanying internal policy and procedures. 
  • Work closely with the Public Information Officer to support emergency communications using risk communication principles as needed.
  • Develop and deliver a variety of communications training to staff based on identified needs, including topics such as public engagement, marketing, media relations, and best practices.
  • Coordinate community education event opportunities. 
  • Work with community partners to promote KCPHD services and programs.
