Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Critical Care Tech provides basic patient care under the direction of the RN/LVNin accordance withthe philosophy, goals,objectives, and policies and procedures of Las Palmas Medical Center.As the MonitorTechnician,willalsobe responsible formonitoringthe Sepsis Prevention and Optimization of Therapy (SPOT) application. SPOT requires continuous observation and real time feedback to RNs requiringpossible sepsisintervention.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Demonstrates knowledge and application of intermediate patient care, to include vital signs, cardiacmonitoringand basic EKG.

• Participates in theunit basedQuality Improvement process.

• Practices,endorsesand provides customer service skills to patients, visitors,physiciansand staff.

• Demonstrates knowledge and respect of patient’s right to privacy and protection of patient’s confidentiality.

• Plans,organizesand communicates changes in patient’s heart rate and rhythm to the Registered Nurse.

• Monitors and documents EKG heart rate and rhythm for every monitored patient every 4 hours.

• Troubleshoots patient monitoring equipment and notifies biomedical engineering promptly of any unresolved equipment issues.Respondsimmediatelyto Sepsis Prevention and Optimization of Therapy alerts withaccuratetier placement and notification to RN.

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS

• BCLS Certified

• Passing of EKG Exam within 6 months of employment

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Experience as a C.N.A or E.M.T
