JOB SUMMARY:

The Associate Director, Interim Housing will provide administrative oversight of the managerial and day to day program activities of the USHS Interim Housing Sites located in the San Gabriel Valley . The Associate Director manages all administrative and program reporting, tracks program outcomes and ensures accuracy and timeliness of program documentation. This position will be responsible for enhancing engagement with Funders/Partners, community stakeholders, and motel management staff. The Associate Director, Interim Housing will oversee intakes, care coordination, security, and overnight staff to insure the successful adherence to contractual obligations. The Associate Director will ensure adherence to best practices, including housing first, harm reduction, and trauma informed care, and will maintain a low-barrier, person-centered environment at each of the interim housing sites.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide supervision and support to interim housing management staff.

  • Coaches, develops, counsels and completes performance evaluations for supervised staff.

  • Cultivates a culture of trust, inclusion, collaboration, service excellence, and accountability using a variety of established best people management practices.

  • Act as primary contact for Interim Housing Sites assigned to ensure USHS is meeting performance standards and continuously working toward improved service delivery through collaboration with funders.

  • Review case files and electronic records (HMIS) with assigned staff to ensure compliance with reporting and documentation guidelines.

  • Review and approve bi-weekly time sheets.

  • Facilitate weekly case conferencing/team meetings, with a focus on exit planning for interim housing residents

  • Ensure program outcomes and objectives are met, through strategic planning and providing support to staff.

  • Oversee the intake and enrollment of eligible clients, including, as needed: assisting interim housing residents with gathering program eligibility documentation, and completing program intake forms.

  • Strive to recognize the best in each client and to support the meaningful change they seek through building relationships and utilizing motivational interviewing techniques and strength based case management techniques.

  • Maintain a focus on and model best practices, such as Housing First, Harm Reduction, and reducing barriers to housing and services; ensure that direct and indirect reports understand program philosophies and utilize best practices.

  • Provide site and field based services as appropriate and transport clients as needed to essential appointments that support their goals.

  • Partner with residents to pursue appropriate permanent housing solutions, and facilitate referrals to housing and service resources.

  • Assist residents with their physical and mental health needs by providing support and linkage to appropriate services.

  • Coordinate on-site recreational, social and community-building activities; support groups, and educational opportunities.

  • In partnership with Data and Quality Assurance Specialist, provide oversight of program quality assurance.

  • If applicable, provide day to day supervision to MSW interns working within the program.

  • Provide coverage for After Hours Crisis Support Line.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work indoors in temperature controlled environment with occasional exposure to outdoor weather and driving conditions. The noise level in the ork environment is usually moderate.

  • Stand and sit for long periods of time; move and walk to various locations; climb stairs, stoop, kneel, reach, pull, push, bend, twist, and occasionally lift and or move objects. Use hands to finger, handle or feel.

  • See, hear and speak clearly in order to give and receive information and instructions, perform administrative work, and drive motor vehicles including passenger vans.

  • Ability to interact with other employees, clients, customers and members of the public.

  • Ability to work effectively under time constraints, prioritize work, multi-task, and adapt to changing work demands.

  • Gather, analyze, synthesize, and classify information.

  • Transcribe, enter, and post data.

  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.

  • May require exposure to blood borne pathogens and infectious agents.

  • Requires use a computer keyboard for substantial periods of time.

  • Able to travel to off-site meetings or other activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge surrounding poverty, homelessness and social factors involved.

  • Understanding of recovery model principles and practices.

  • Ability to understand the needs of formerly homeless people and people with disabilities and to develop collaborative goals towards greater self-sufficiency and independence in the greater community.

  • Ability to work autonomously with a minimal amount of supervision.

  • Knowledgeable about services for homeless and low income individuals throughout Los Angeles County.

  • Knowledge of the dynamics of substance use, mental health needs, and the effects of homelessness.

  • Skilled in use of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Apps (Docs, Sheets, etc.) and HMIS Homeless Management Information System.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate professionally, tactfully and respectfully with a variety of individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

  • Ability to manage assigned programs, organize and prioritize activities, consistently apply sound judgment, and achieve goals and timelines

  • Skilled in crisis intervention and de-escalation.

  • Possess valid California drivers license and have access to properly registered vehicle.
