Position Summary:Under the administrative supervision of the Public Works Engineer, the Engineering Civil 3D CAD Technician performs CAD drafting of all County Engineering projects, assists in surveying, and as an assistant to the Engineering staff.
Examples of Work (Essential Functions):
- Use AutoCAD (Civil 3D) proficiently in daily assignments.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers andSurveyors.
- Interact with Road and BridgePersonnel.
- Review all work for completeness andaccuracy.
- Assist in field activities to gather projectinformation.
- Perform CAD services in accordance with companystandards.
- Utilize CAD to translate mark-ups into drawings, check and plot drawings, correctly label finalworking drawings, and update contract drawings andspecifications.
- Provide CAD drafting and design support for Project Managers and Engineers during the planning, design and construction of land development and civil infrastructureprojects.
- Perform basic mathematic calculations. (Example: pipe slopes, areas, volumes,etc.)
- Detailing and development of construction plans. Process raw information from Designer for project design.
- Read and follow CAD Standards and Operating Procedures, including standards, conventions, andguidelines, implementing them in daily assignments to maintain uniformity in workproducts.
- Review and check plans foraccuracy.
- Process various engineering calculations using second party software with minimalsupervision (example: creating existing and proposed surfaces, creating alignments andprofiles).
- Produce site plan and utility layout with minimal supervision fromDesigner.
- Process existing and proposed profiles (example: grade,utilities).
- Plot legal descriptions for parcels, easements, and right ofways.
- Import survey data into Civil3D
- Assist with boundary, topographical, ALTA, and As-builtsurveys
- Generate stake-out coordinates and plot information for fieldcrew
- Assistswithmakingengineeringcalculationsandpreparationofconstructionplansforroadandbridge projects, landfill,facilities;
- Assists survey crew in verifying the accuracy of survey data, including measurements andcalculations conducted at surveysites;
- Calculates heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics ofterrain;
- Prepares and maintains sketches, maps, reports, field notes to describe, workperformed;
- Performs other duties as deemed necessary or asrequired.
- Survey processing; create CAD base files, surfaces, pipe networks, sheet production, etc.
Decision Making:The work is largely non-routine. It is mainly self-directed within the framework of agreed work plans and objectives and policy guidelines. Judgment is frequently exercised without the benefit of clear policy rulings or precedents. Creative thinking is often required to reach decisions. Only occasional reference to higher authority is required
Supervisory Responsibility:Involves leadership role such as directing of others to complete assignments; others may include employees working in shifts or crews, work-study students, temporary support, part time staff, or other individuals assigned in ones area of responsibility.
Knowledge and Skills:Proficiency is required in a professional, administrative, technical or manual labor field involving the understanding and application of fairly advanced practices, procedures, concepts or principals. Four years related experience and/or a Bachelors degree from a college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties;
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as prop rtions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume;
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra andgeometry;
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral,or diagramform;
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardizedsituations;
- Ability to convey and receive detailed or important instructions and information to and from other workers;
- Knowledge of surveying, drafting, computer aided drafting design and construction methods andmanagement;
- Skill in oral and written communication.
Budget Impact: Employee will have some involvement with the administrative responsibility for the budget development, monitoring and/or approval as well as managerial oversight of the budget function.
